my cousin in Ireland named her daughter Daisy and she got a lot of flack for that....
Ethnic names are bgreat because I think they really connect kids with their culture. I teach in a school with a lot of Asian (mainly Indian) children and some of those names are just beautiful and very unique in the United States.
But these people who name their kids Nemo and Raspberry and spelling things backwards and making crap up should be shot... those kids are going to be teased all their lives just because their parents are idiots or ignorant or both! This one girl i know named her child Cavan because she told me it was an Irish name. To myself I was like, it's a PLACE in Ireland... that's like naming your kid Arkansas...
What's wrong with the name Daisy? My daughters name is Clover and my sons name is Roman. I hardly consider my myself or DH idiots or ignorant. What a lovely opinion you have.
BTW... I grew up knowing a lot of Italian boys named Nemo (obviously it was before the movie)

I love flower names. My sister is a flower name. So Daisy, Iris, Rose, all good with me.
I knew four girls named January, April May and June.
An ex coworker named her daughter Ripley. After Sigourney Weaver's character in Alien.

Cousin went to school with....
(ready...)
Lemonjello
Lemon-JELLO!
My MIL taught a set of twins named Lemonjello and Orangejello.
She also had a little girl whose first name was Satisfier.
And she had a girl who really thought her name was Pumpkin Pooh Darlin' becuase that's what her mom callled her all the time.
ETA: I just remembered she had a little boy in her class named Lavoris (like the mouthwash)

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
My dad is Floyd. And my uncle was Parker Sealy (first and middle name). Parker is popular now but it was a family name. I was going to use it as a middle name if we had a girl.
A lot of my clients have interesting names as well.

Re: Do you know anyone with a VERY unique name?
When my father had been in business, one of the services he had was to print ribbons for parties. One woman had come in to have ribbons printed for:
"Smurfette's Baptism"
No joke. How do we know that this was no joke? Abuot one year later, the same lady came in to print ribbons for:
"Smurfette's First Birthday"
I am convinced that drugs are VERY bad and that teenagers watch too much TV. Thus concludes my judgement.
