once she returned a BREAST PUMP that she had used for 4 months!!!!!!!!!
No place I know would take back a breast pump. I know for a fact that BRU told me once I opened it, it was mine, defective or not. That is so freaking nasty

That is really gross, although if you go on ebay, there are lots of people that sell the breast pumps, and lots of people buy them on there. but they know they are used.

I did it once...I HAD to get a dress to something I didnt want to go to in the first place. I couldnt find anything and settled on something "because it fit." So I wore it and returned it
Maybe it's just me, but I'd have kept it. It's not the store's fault I couldn't find anything I liked better.

I would never do this...but I know alot of people do.
I worked at MAcy's for 5 yrs...and basically if you have the reciept they will take anything back. I one time had a woman who was attempting to return a bathing suit...that was stained in the croth area. It was the one and only time that I refused to return an item...I explained that it was against the dpet of health for me to accept an garment of clothing in such condition.
She was actually insulted that I refused to touch the item; and went up to the store manager's office to complain about me. The store manager thankfully agreed with me, when he saw the condition of the bathing suit.
But outside of stain bathing suits and lingerie most stores will accept anything.

I never have and I've never known anyone do to this. I don't think I would have the guts to walk into a store and return something I wore playing it off like I never wore it.

Once with a $300 costume jewelry bracelet.
Last month I purchased a bracelet to wear to my sister's wedding. The day of the wedding as I was getting ready at my sister's home, I picked up the bracelet to put it on and one of the stones fell out.  I didn't have any other bracelets with me, so I wore it for the wedding, but I sent it back after the wedding was over and didn't request an exchange (if the stone fell out that easily of that one, I was afraid to risk getting another one.) Had the stones remained in tact, I would have kept it.
That's my exception. Otherwise, I'm notorius for not returning clothing or items that don't fit or I don't like. Most of it ends up donated with the tags still attached.

I have done it. But I have never altered anything and then returned it!
ETA...after reading all the comments, I feel like a really bad person for doing this. I don't do it thinking...gee, let me buy this and return it later.

i seriously don't know how anyone would want one that is used by a stranger! i just searched on ebay and found at least THREE that are listed as "gently used"

A friend of mine buys and returns clothes that she wears.
Mostly its things she would wear just once, like a dress from bloomies or nordstrom.
She always gets it dry cleaned before she brings it back, and attaches the tags. So its always clean, and pressed.
She also buys and wears costume jewerly and returns it.
SHe has done this alot, and has notice in the stores that most of the dresses are returned. (because nordstrom and bloomies puts this sticker on all merchandise purchased) its like a reciept incase you loose yours.
She was just in Saks, and was going to buy a dress, but it was worn, and someone had actually sewn cups in it and she showed the sales girl and the salesgirl said "everyone does it"
Just wondering if anyone has done this, and what you think of this.
How does she reattach the tags?!

She has an Avery tagger gun, you can get them online, ebay etc. along with different sized plastic tags
I have seen her do it a bunch of times.

No, I've never done it and never would. This confirms for me why I wash or dryclean everything I buy before I wear it. If I wanted second hand clothes, I'd go to a second hand store.

I never did but I was accused of doing it!
I had bought some spanx type stuff years ago to wear under a dress b/c I couldn't find the one I had...never tried them on. I wound up finding mine so I returned the ones I bought....never even took them out of the bag.
Well, when the lady at the register pulled them out of the bag, one of the black undergarmets had white powder or deodorant alll over it! I never even noticed it. Then she accused me of wearing it and returning it!!!
I was MORTIFIED!!!

okay so i'm reading everyone's posts and i'm really starting to get freaked out. first you guys post about the glasses in the hotel and now i'm buying clothes that other people with god knows what have worn..i'm really going to live in a bubble and make my own clothes now..what's next my friend got scabies once and she swore it was from the pair of jeans she bought at marshalls..now i'm not so sure she was wrong..i'm so grossed out

Even for a very expensive item, I could not be bothered to take the time to pick something out then go back and return it. I don't have time for that.
I worked at Sterns years ago (when Sterns existed) and I hated taking back items that smelled like cigarette smoke. That happened often but some of the items were never worn. They were just in a smoky house.
