Would You Go to a Beauty School for Salon/Spa Services?
There is a School of Beauty right near the high school I work at. Quite a few of the women in my department go there for different services. It's the type of situation where the senior members of the program perform the services. I just went on the website and the prices are so dirt cheap! I don't know if I'd get a haircut, but a $25 facial and massage is something I just may not be able to turn down!
Your thoughts? Would you go?

My friend goes to a beauty school to get her hair highlighted and it turns out great...she pays like $40 for a cut and full highlights. I'd say try it!

Yes...sure. My friend who does hair/nails went through school...so I guess that's why I would be so open. That's how they learn...there is always a senior person or teacher present to supervise.

Re: Would You Go to a Beaity School for Salon/Spa Services?
I used to go to the Aveda Institute in the city on Spring Street. They did such a good job...I stopped working in the city so I had a sacrifice a weekend day to go...
But they were great! It was always what I asked for, and I always did color. I sometimes did cuts...
They were really good, place like this book up really quickly.

Re: Would You Go to a Beauty School for Salon/Spa Services?
When I was in school for massage therapy, people in the neighborhood flocked to my school for $25 hour long massages.
They took a chance in getting someone really, really good for $25 vs. someone who just wasn't into it.
MOST students were pretty good and got even better the more they worked. And we had open workshops 2x a week so anyone not good was able to get feedback and get better

Donna - are I supposed to tip? Are they allowed to accept them?

Re: Would You Go to a Beauty School for Salon/Spa Services?
We did get tips since the customers were getting a nice discount. Usually $10 was given if it was a good massage, but that also lasted an hour long

Re: Would You Go to a Beauty School for Salon/Spa Services?
I had a nightmare experience at a beauty school (not in this area). A really bad haircut and someone stole my gold earrings that they asked me to take out for the cut. I will never do it again, I would rather just go to supercuts if I am looking for a less expensive cut.
I might consider the massage, though.

I got highlights done at the Aveda Institute once. They came out great!

Yes! My friend used to get her hair cut and colored at the Vidal Sassoon school here in Manc. It took all bloody day, but the results were always good.

Re: Would You Go to a Beauty School for Salon/Spa Services?
When I was little, my aunt took me to the "Wilfred Beauty School" for a haircut. I was young, but even I knew I should be nervous that the girl forgot her scissors and her hands were shaking while cutting my hair.
I would go for a spa service, but wouldn't trust my hair or coloring.

I would do this too. My mom and my sister went to one place and had facials, they were happy with the results.

I don't think I'd let anyone mess with my hair, but I'd go for the other things.

Re: Would You Go to a Beauty School for Salon/Spa Services?
facials - i'm not so sure.
i wouldn't do anything that could alter my appearance - i'm nervous enough as it is getting facials being that my skin is so sensitive.
but a massage - sure!
haircuts - NEVER.
