Daycare/Nanny related

DH has a rotating schedule - so, if I opt for daycare, it's likely that I'll be paying for full-time care even though I don't necessarily need it. His schedule is 5 days on 2 days off, 5 days on 3 days off. So, some weeks I'll need daycare 5 days, some only 2.
In your opinion, do you think I'm better off looking for a nanny? Do you think I could find such a flexible nanny?

I think you might have better luck with a daycare center than a nanny.

You might luck out with a center that charges based on the amount of hours you need per day. You can speak to them about flexibility, and let them know you are interested in 3 days a week only, but does it have to be the same 3 days each week. You might be surprised.

I think you're better off with daycare on a part-time basis where you pay by the day. If you go for full time you have to pay whether you're there or not.

Nanny's are more expensive than both options I think.

Thanks - I actually prefer a daycare, but I didn't think I'd find one that goes by the day. If I have to, I'll just have to pay for full-time.

I'm in Brooklyn so maybe it's different, but all of the ones I went to offered a part-time as well as full time, so maybe you'll be lucky.

Re: Daycare/Nanny related

Most daycares allow PT. My niece goes to tutor time and only goes 3 days because I watch her the other two. My sister pays for three(even if she doesn't go...my sister still has to pay for all three)...but if I can't do it, she just adds a day that week! I would talk to the daycare about it!

Re: Daycare/Nanny related

If you find something, can you let me know?

My Dh has the same rotating schedule and he also rotates from 7-3 one week and 3-11 the next (the 3 days off are after the 3-11). We are thinking of having him switch to the night crew because I was told by a friend that with this type of scedule, we might have to pay full-time daycare even if we don't use it full-time.

Good uck!

My DH has offered to switch to nights and stay home but I don't want to resort to that yet b/c a) he'll never sleep and b) we'll never have family time
I think I'll have a hard time finding a facility that is OK with this schedule - I think I'll end up paying out

Re: Daycare/Nanny related

My daycare takes kids by the day. They are also really flexible with days- so you could probably work something out with them if you needed!

FM me if you want the name of the day care!

Re: Daycare/Nanny related

When I was researching daycares, all of the ones I went to did not have a part time program for infants. It was 5 days or nothing!
