Well, I had a planned C section, so I can't answer the labor parts, but I will tell you that the C section was so much less scarier than I ever imagined it to be and my recovery went really well. Also, I was relieved to find out I needed a C section because I was so terrified of laborChat Icon

OMG I feel exactly the same way....even though my c-section wasn't planned. All I can say is the recovery is not that bad at all. Also the thought of pushing her out of down there and that pain scared the H E L L out of me. For me after the c-section it was easy for me to poop and pee and as long as I don't move too fast I'm fine. A perkaset (sp?) here and there doesn't hurt eitherChat Icon

How umcomfortable is it while they are kneeding your uterus to contract back down?

Really, really painful. Seriously one of the worst parts for me. When the nurses would come in to do that I would cry and beg them not to.

I did this too Chat Icon , when the nurse would walk in I would say through the tears " you are not going to push on my stomach again, are you?"

She said "sorry hun, I have to"

Ugh, save the sorry and keep your stone like hands away from my sore belly...I really wanted to knock that bi@ch out Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Let's get the truth out here...

I can only answer about half of the questions as I had a crash c-section (this is a little more severe than an emergency c-section).

The cramps: Ok- so i had cramping for about 3 days before I went into labor. They were sporadic and like mild period cramps. They didn't take my breath away or cause a level of discomfort that stopped me from working.

Once my water broke, the cramps were pretty bad. I did take lamaze class and honestly the pain was too bad and all the panting and breathing went right out the window and I did what you aren't supposed to do- held my breath and tensed up. This made the pain worse. The pitocin only made it worse- I couldn't get a break. I made it until about 5 cm then got the epidural.

The epi doesn't really hurt that bad. For me, the hardest part was staying still through the contractions in order for the dude to adminster it.

Once in- heaven.

Oh- for my c-section, they didn't have time to give me a spinal- i only had the epi- and they started cutting and I felt it- now THAT hurt! But then they knocked me out under general....

Re: Let's get the truth out here...

I had back labor. I would rate the pain at 4 (5 being the most painful). It was the most pain I have ever felt but tolerable since I had the same pains from 9pm until I delivered at 1:20pm the next day

When those contractions kick in full swing, how long was it unbearable before you asked for an epidural? Does the "panting" really help at all? My contractions started at 9pm and were the same for the duration of labor. I don't think it got bad then worse. It sayed the same. I did not pant so I don't know if it works!

When getting an epidural, they DO numb you- right? Yep, the numb you. It did not hurt. Since my back labor was a lot worse I don't remember feeling pain from the epidural insertion.

After the epidural is in place, how long did the "pain free" stage last? Do you still have any feeling, pressure, sensation down below after receiving the epidural? I only had the epidural in for an hour and then I delivered. I felt a twinge in one butt cheek so I knew I was having a contraction.

Did your doctor let your epidural "wear off" before having you push? Was it entirely worn off when you started to push? Did you feel as much pain as you did before you got it? Since I only had it in for a little while before I delivered and the twinge in my butt cheek made me aware of the contractions they did not turn it down.

When pushing, is the pain greater when you're not pushing? Does it get worse as the baby comes down the birth canal? When crowning or passing the shoulders?? I remember saying OW, OW but I wouldn't say it was horrible pain

Did you poop on the tabe? (C'mon, we ALL wanna know!) YEP!

Did you have an episiotomy? Did your doctor numb your perineum before making the incision? Or did they just figure that you're in pain already, a little "snip" wont bother you? (I shudder at the thought of this)
I tore a little but didn't have an episiotomy. I think they numbed the area to stitch me up.

Did you have to "push" your placenta out, or did your doctor help by pulling? Was this terribly uncomfortable? I do not remember pain for the placenta coming out.

How umcomfortable is it while they are kneeding your uterus to contract back down? Didn't feel pain

How painful was your recovery?
The only thing that hurt was the huge henoorhoids I developed the day before I delivered. My butt was in pain for about three weeks. That was about it!
