So last night, I encountered "one of those" type of moms

I went to my cousin's husbands surprise 40th. DH stayed home because we felt that the girls were not ready to handle Cailen if he woke up in the middle of the night and couldn't get him back to sleep.

I saw my cousin's childhood friend who has a 2 yr old, and is pregnant.

She is very snobby and has no sense of humor, but thats beside the point.

My cousin asked me where DH was, and I said why he wasn't there. The snobby mom said, "yeah, well, you have to let go at SOME point."

I said, " Um, yeah, well, he's 7 mts old. I think we can wait a little while before we leave him alone with a 16 year old and a 10 year old."

I also told her I love my sleep WAY too much to mess things up, and he has had sleep issues (although really, I shouldnt felt I had to explain.)

What the HELL? That really pi ssed me off. WHO is she to judge? She hasn't seen me in years.

Also, when the conversation was over, I realized I knew her daughter's name, when her baby was due (another girl), and when her mother watches her daughter. I realized she never asked me what my child's name was, or anything about him. Yet she felt comfortable equipping me with baby advice.

I found myseklf sitting with another of my cousin's friends - another snobby type, and they were talking about all the things they do with their kids because they are SAHM, but snobby things. and then I realized I was witnessing a pi ssing contest between them.

i told DH when I got home that I understood how parents can really lose confidence in themselves as parents, and feel they aren't doing "enough" or the right thing when they are constantly in an environment where parents are in that holier than thou attitude...

ETA - turns out, I WAS right - Cailen had fever all night and didnt sleep, and the girls would never have been able to handle it....

Your mother's instinct was right, see!! Those other women are rude witches who have issues with themselves therefore causing them to be rude to others.

Don't listen to them...you don't want to be like them anyway, so don't take what they say to heart at all Chat Icon

They are both very wealthy - well their DH's are wealthy, and they just have that stick up their a s s personalities that you see in movies.

When I told them how much I love going to work, and how much Cailen loves daycare, they looked at me like I said I enjoy beating my child on a daily basis....

Those kind of women drive me nuts too!! I'm wondering if they're hands on mommies in the same way you are though?

I think they are very much concerned aboutt heir intellectual development but also concerned about them looking good, not being dirty.... being perfect little kids...

Ugh! How annoying! I'm sure it made you appreciate what a great mommy you are. Chat Icon I can't stand superficial people like that.

Sounds like it all boils down to their own insecurities. You did the right thing. Chat Icon

I so wanted to tell her off. I so wanted to say - "Don't tell me about letting go when you don't go to work everyday and drop your child off at daycare..." Chat Icon

I am infuriated when people start competing over their kids, getting into pissing contests and making rude comments. Chat Icon Chat Icon

I can't stand people like this, and although I don't have kids, I have friends who do and are made to feel bad by people like this. They work and are doing a great job like you are, and I can't stand to have them second guess themselves when people like this come around. As far as these women go, although they are SAHM's, they probably ignore the kid the whole day while they shop/play tennis or something Chat Icon

ITA! Liza, I have meet many wealthy people who are SAHM's, or work outside the home moms and are down to earth and genuinely wonderful human beings. Conversely, I have met many people who scrape by financially and are selfish snobs. Point being, that money cannot buy class or tact. You did the right thing by leaving Calien with your DH. Chat Icon
Whenever I see a pissing match going on, I leave the room and disengage them. Parents like that need an audience to have a pissing match in front of and I decided long ago (before I was preggo) not play along with the "one up" game. Sorry she was a rude beeeyoch too you. Chat Icon
