Facial numbness -UPDATED

The doctor thinks it is sinus related. She did some basic neurological testing, an eye test, and some blood work. She didn't seem too concerned. However, she mentioned Bell's Palsy and Shingles and said if my face starts to droop and/or I develop a facial rash to head over to the ER.

It still tingles and feels numb, but I am not in pain.

Thanks for your advice!!!

Re: Facial numbness - Kind of freaked out

it could just be a sinus thing, or something more serious - it never hurts to be safe, so i would follow the doc's advice.

I would listen to the Dr- it could be any of a number of things- if it gets worse, why not go to the ER?
If you aren't in pain- wait until tomorrow.

Re: Facial numbness - Kind of freaked out

Have you had a cold or a virus recently? If it does get worse she was probably suggesting the ER for Bell's Palsy. It is temporary paralysis of one side of the face. It resolves on it own but it is kind of strange. No big health concern though. My DH had it. It usuallly comes after a slight cold or virus. Really weird and annoying but it is not harmful to you or the baby.

If she thought it was anything worse she would have told you to seek help right away. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Feel better.

I have had a horrible cold for the last few days. Maybe it is related.

It could be... Maybe you have sinus swelling or something that is causing tingling.. Like pushing on the facial nerve or something. UGH... That sucks. As long as it doesn't get worse I wouldn't worry but if it turns to real numbness I would see a dr. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Bell's Palsy is like a freak reaction your body has to a virus like a cold that cause paralysis of the facial nerve that usually goes away after a few weeks.
ETA: I just looked at the bell's palsy reserch page and it is associated with pregnancy. If it gets worse I would listen to the dr's advice. Feel Better and don't get yourself upset. Wait a few hours and see how you feel.

Thanks a lot. I am not going to fool around with it and I am going to see a doctor at first med since my Dr.'s office is closed. It's one thing to ignore something for me, but if it may affect the bean, so I should be more aware.

Thanks Chat Icon
