air travel

So DH and I were talking about a "Babymoon" for Christmas week. I forgot to ask my doc today if it would be okay for me to fly to Florida... by then I'll be about 5 months (I'm 13w4d now) pregnant. As much as I'd LOVE to go away one last time pre-baby... I have a few concerns:

1- Doc informed me that my immune system is lowered so that my body doesn't reject the baby. I had a flu shot, but I still would rather not get sick or be around sick people... I'm concerned about the recycled air on the plane and what other people may be walking around with. Granted I'm hoping this will be a fabulous excuse out of my IL's for x-mas.

2. I'm on Lovenox - blood thinner and aspirin for Factor 5 and Prothrombin genes. I wonder if there are risks associated with blood clots. It's only Florida so only 2-3 hours.

What does everyone think? There's nothing local I'd like to do or can do. Granted, not sure if I want to sit on a beach either with my 5 month preggo gut hanging out. I'm afraid someone will harpoon meChat Icon

Any other suggestions for some "down time" with DH more locally? I'd hate to just stay home... I'lll end up cleaning and he'll end up playing on his computer all week. We always talked about a spa, but I'm not sure I can do any spa treatments while pregnant, I'd be afraid of taking chances.

Re: air travel

I would just ask my doctor if it is ok to fly. I went on my babymoon when I was 15 weeks and then San Diego when I was 18 weeks and had no problems with the flight.

Re: air travel

I leave in 2 days for ours and I'm 25 weeks. There's no general rule not to fly until late into your third trimester. That said, if you have concerns about your personal condition, you should speak with your doctor.

Flying on a short flight like that is fine, however alwasy talk to your doctor since he/she knows you better. I traveled a lot while pregnant with DD#1 and have gone on a 5hour drive to SC ( i live in GA) already and have a flight to NY for Christmas and then in January a flight to St. Petes. I'll be in my 3rd tri. Although I am high Risk and my dr. said I shouldn't travel past 26 weeks (not the norm) she also said to use my judgement and be smart. Meaning you can walk around the cabin in flight, drink your fluids. Rest when you get to your destination and so on.

If you are still too nervous than what about a local bed & Breakfast or Spa or the Poconos. whatever you do, enjoy.

Re: air travel

I traveled to FL at 28 weeks preggo and am on Lovenox. My doc said it was no problem...but she didn't want me to fly after the 28th week. So you are fine! But I think it was more that she didnt want me so far from her.

Enjoy!!!!!

Re: air travel

I'm leaving Saturday for Miami and my doctor said it was fine. She advised me to get up and walk around a bit during the flight, but that was it.

I flew to Cali at 20 weeks. My dr. just said to make sure I get up and walk around once per hour. If you're concerned, you should call your dr.
