I was awakened in the middle of the night by what I can only describe as the most painful leg cramp/ charlie horse ever. In my calf. Horrible. Terrible pain.
I am no stranger to pain- I am actually pretty tough. It hurt so bad, I had no choice but to scream- completely involuntarily. LIke, scream. DH didn't even wake up, though, which is weird.
Anyway- it was this completely seizing tightening of my calf muscle- felt like it was about to snap. It passed, but all night I kept waking up to stretch, the muscle is still tight.
Is this a symptom, or am I just an unlucky freak of nature?
I am terrified of this happening again- more afraid than I am of birth.

I cannot believe I just read this.....I coulld have written it myself!!! I swear the EXACT same thing happend to me in the middle of the night last night too!! However my screaming and hysterical crying woke DH and he was ready to take me to the ER!! I am absolutely terrified of it happening again becasue it really was the worst pain I have ever experienced in my life!! As soon as it was over all I kept thinking was, if I couldn't handle that how in the hell am I going to handle labor!!!!!

I still cannot believe this happend to someone else then same night it happend to me!!

This is NUTS!
And I'm glad I am not exhagerating the pain- seriously. I have broken bones, had major back surgey- nothing compared to this pain, though it was short lived thankfully!
So weird that it happened to you last night too! I wonder if the weather has something to do with it...

Re: Good morning- I will now stab your leg

For me, I think they are more related to muscle strain. I don't buy the potassium/water thing. I have gotten them even when I ate bananas daily and drank a lot of water. I found during pregnancy, I was using one of my legs draped over the side of the bed to pull myself up to get out of bed. I think this was part of the problem, since I haven't had one sice I stopped doing this.

They hurt like hell, but if you can get out of bed and stand on that leg, it will go away faster than any other way. dont worry - it's a normal pregnancy thing.

I felt paralyzed- knowing that standing on it will help will hopefully motivate me next time.
Lord I hope there's no next time.

I had them all the time with #1 and they were always in the middle of the night. My dr. had told me it was from dehydration. With #2 all I drank was water and alot of it and I only had a few towards the end and it was mainly when I streched the wrong way.

I have gotten a few also. Some have been so bad I wake up screaming. I totally feel your pain. I don't really know what causes it cause I eat bananas and drink lots and lots of water. Just certain nights it happens. Add that to the list of preggo problems Chat Icon

Re: Good morning- I will now stab your leg

I have had them off and on for years. If I got them as a non-preggo, I am sure I am doomed as a preggo. Chat Icon It is awful pain, I have woken my husband from sleep with my yelling. This is the same husband who slept though a hurricane. Chat Icon

Re: Good morning- I will now stab your leg

I had one the other night and couldn't believe how FAST I jumped out of bed - I didn't think it was physically possible for a 7 month preggo to jump so fast! My calf felt tight for the rest of the night and the next day, but it's fine now.Chat Icon
