Anyone a psychologist or mental health practitioner?
Hi, I'm just wondering what degree you obtained to become a mental health practioner. Also, are you able to open up your own practice? What did that require? Thanks.

Re: Anyone a psychologist or mental health practitioner?
Any of the position you mention require a Master's degree and/or advanced degrees. I'm a licensed mental health counselor in NYS. I have a Master's degree in Counseling. I'm also a Certified Rehab Counselor.
I don't have a private practice because I'm a SAHM. I work p/t as a consultant and make great money. It would probably learn less if I had a private practice.
In terms of opening your own practice, you would have to establish a professional service corporation/entity or professional limited liability corporation subject to the requirements of the Education and the Business Corporation laws. You would have to consult with your attorney/accountant to determine if the creation of a professional entity is appropriate. In most cases, your attorney will file an application with the Department of State and the Education Department must consent to the title and purpose of a professional entity. I know most of my friends in private practice don't usually accept insurance. Cash only works best for them.

I'm a psychologist. I have my PhD. Currently I work at a hospital and don't yet have a private practice because I need to get licensed first, which includes accumulating supervised hours and passing a test.

I am a licensed mental health counselor. I went to grad school and after I graduated I had to accumulate 3000 hours and pass a test to get my license.

I'm also an LMHC. I got my Masters and Professional Diploma in Counseling and then took a test to become a National Certified Counselor. Because of the NCC, I was grandfathered into the licensure (I didn't have to take a test). I have a private practice as well. I got some malpractice insurance, advertised online, and rented an office space. I don't accept insurance.

I am a licensed clinical social worker. I obtained my masters degree in social work and then took a licensure test. I can open up a private practice but choose not to right now.
