Another Baby Acne ?? -pic added
I took Emily to the doctor yesterday morning because of her severe baby acne. The doctor confirmed that it is just baby acne, but he said it is very severe and irritated. He told me to get over the counter 1% hydrocordisone cream and put that on her twice daily.
I swear the baby acne is hurting or itching her. We're noticing her itching her face all the time and last night she was crying and crying, itching likec razy--so we got a wet wash cloth and I put it on the bad spots and she instantly quieted down.
I don't feel like the hydrocortisone is helping yet -- but hopefully it will soon.
My question is -- for those of you whose babies had bad baby acne -- how long did it persist for and what do you attribute to helping it go away?
TIA! Melissa
ETA: Here is a pic of Emily's pimples that we took yesterday. It makes me so sad because only 4 days ago her skin was FLAWLESS. Have any of your babies had baby acne this bad? I feel like I've nver seen anything like this! Image Attachment(s):

Re: Another Baby Acne ??
I've been washing her face with the J&J shampoo -- just putting it on a wet washcloth and washing her with that -- is there a better way to do it??
I can't give her a full blown bath because her cord is still attached at 3.5 weeks!

Talia had it from 2.5 weeks until 6 weeks. Once she hit 6 weeks it seemed to go away almost overnight. We always washed with J and J - but it never seemed to help much. I think it's just hormonal and when it's ready to end it does no matter how hard you try to get rid of it.

Marissa had the same thing! Right before she was 6 weeks old, it disappeared. However, I don't think it ever itched or anything.
Did the doctor say anything about it being eczema?? My friend's baby had it and he was always scratching away.

Re: Another Baby Acne ??
My friends have said it kind of disappears around 6 weeks. I have heard that its from hormones in mom's milk. Not sure if this is true or not. I wonder if formula baby's get it or get it as bad.

Re: Another Baby Acne ??
Emily is only getting about 3 BM bottles now and the rest are formula. At first I thought it was an allergic reaction to the formula because it started right when I increased her formula intake because I've been pumping a little bit less -- but the doc said if it was an allergic reaction it would be all over -- especially behind her knees and in her armpits and elbows and it's not at all -- in face the rest of her skin is flawless.
I'm just going to be persistant with the babyshampoo and hydrocortisone -- I just wish itwasn't uncomfortable for her and I hope it goes away soon!!

Did you see my haloweek pictures? Her cheeks are a mess plus she has it on her ears. I asked my friend and she said both her kids had it that bad.

Yep Logan had it pretty bad. It started to go away at 6.5 weeks and was fully gone by 7 weeks. Now he gets occasional acne but nothing like before.
I put the J&J directly on his face and then wash it with a washcloth. i found this to work the best (before that I wouldput in on the washcloth but it didn't work as well). It didn't quite work overnight for us but it did work fairly quickly.

Jordan had it really bad, just like in your pictures, and I totally freaked, the more I trie things on it, the worse it got......my only advice is to not mess with it too much, it'll go away on it's own.

Re: Another Baby Acne ?? -pic added
Have you noticed it getting worse since you have been trying the washcloth and J&J shampoo? Is is possible that she is allergic to either the detergent or the shampoo? If it's open I would think that the shampoo could irritate it more. I would maybe soothe her with a cool washcloth but try to lay off of the shampoo for a couple of days and see if it goes away a little or if the redness goes down. I know my face has severly sensitive skin. I react to things on my face that I don't on the rest of my body. For example I was sick one night slept with a humidfier on in my room and had a vicks solution it. Well who knew that the vicks would cause me to break out in a rash all over my face. My hands and other body parts that were exposed got nothing just my face.
Good luck and hugs for her

I know how upsetting this can be. I posted Logan's picts from when he was emily's age on your other thread.

Logan's acne was really really bad for a while. Now (at 6 months) it is not as blotchy and rashy looking. He just gets pimples. If I were you (and this is JMO) I wouldn't put anything on her face for a day or two... just because it sounds like her skin is a little irritated from trying different things. I think if you left it alone for a day or two it may reduce red irritation and then you can just treated the pimples. Good luck!

Re: Another Baby Acne ?? -pic added
if it is not going away it coud be a sign of an allergy, maybe to her formula or the detergent you;re using? I don't know if I'd feel comfortable using cortisone creme on the face of such a young baby, but I guess doctor's know best, right? hope she ferels better

Re: Another Baby Acne ?? -pic added
UPDATE ____ UPDATE
Last night I ended up just using a warm wash cloth to soothe it because at night it seems to really bother her. I didn't follow upw ith more hydrocortisone cream after that because she seemed more c omfortable -- and this morning it seems a little better.
As far as the allergy issue the doc said he doubts it's that because it would be behind her knees and elbows and armpits -- but I did start washing me and my DH's shirts in her detergent because she likes ot be on our shoulder when she needs to burp and maybe our detergent was irritating her.
Today it seems a considerable amount better. It's not as red-irritated unless she cries, but once she's calmed down it calms down as well. It is still very pimpley but I can deal with that.
Thank you so much for all of your suggestions! I'd probably be freaking out about this if you weren't all giving me ideas and telling me that you've been through it too!
