Not sure if this recall was posted before - bumbo
I just heard on the tv that the bumbo seat is being recalled because children could fall and get hurt if the seat was put on anything but the floor.

It's being recalled because people can't follow directions?

This is exactly what happened with the Tylenol recall.

Ridiculous recall.
If I put my DS in his bumbo, leave him unattended on the kitchen counter and he pushes himself backward onto the floor and hurts himself, that's the seat's fault?
  Please.

Exactly! Doesn't make ANY sense. I know the directions on the Bumbo specifically state not to put it on any elevated surface.

I don't think it's being "recalled" I think they were just making sure the warnings were clearer and getting the message back out about raised surfaces.
Someone posted about it earlier, a link to the pregnancy board.

Steven fell over in his and he was on the floor
He didn't get hurt, it was when he was kind of too big for it anyway, and he was lifting his bottom to try and get out and he toppled right over.

Well, I was contemplating putting DS on the roof in the Bumbo. Now I guess I need to rethink that.

DD's done that too! She tries to climb into it now (probably should have put it away by now) then topples over. But then again she's been known to trip over air so I can't really blame the seat.

Please. I agree. I mean, I guess its good for the company to be pro-active rather than see more kids get hurt, but really how ridiculous.

Who would put a bumbo seat on an elevated surface?

Re: Not sure if this recall was posted before - bumbo
I don't think it's silly if baby's are getting hurt IMO. The manu's are just covering their own butts so they don't get sued. They are not recalling the bumbo, but they are calling attention to it and they want parents who have a bumbo to get a new instruction manual for it and a new warnings.
Personally, I would never put a baby on an elevated surface in anything, but lots of parents do for convenience.
This is world we live in, that's why M&M's have instructions on them how to open them. And those odor/moisture packets in shoes boxes have written all over them DO NOT EAT! That's there i guess cause someone must have thought, hey a snack comes with my shoes.

Re: Not sure if this recall was posted before - bumbo
Is it a real recall like I can return it to BRU or BBB? DD didn't really like it and we only used it a few times. If I can return it and get money for something better, I would LOVE to do that.

I've seen pics posted here where people did it.
We have a friend who insists on feeding their dd in her Bumbo on their dining room table. When they told us that I thought it was unsafe but kept my mouth shut. I just emailed them the link to the recall info.

Funny that you mentioned this. I think I saw a Target ad in a magazine that showed a Bumbo and they labeled it a baby feeding seat. I was surprised. I guess that ad will be pulled.

Re: Not sure if this recall was posted before - bumbo
they are covering their bu tts because they are being sued by a couple who child fell while in the seat.. also because the picture on the box shows the seat on an elevated surface...
But come.. are people really that dumb?

Re: Not sure if this recall was posted before - bumbo
I guess you can count me in as "dumb". I definitely put it on the kitchen table several times to feed my son when we were at a friend's house. He wasn't left sitting there unattended- and it was much more convenient to carry/use than a travel chair. Have you ever gone to someone's house who has fancy upholstered chairs and no children? There is no way I was going to feed my child sweet potatoes over someone's nice furniture/carpet. It was really useful for feeding when traveling. The dumb part comes in when you don't watch your child.

Re: Not sure if this recall was posted before - bumbo
I think its good they're calling attention to it.....people get complacent and sometimes do things for convenience without thinking. Better that they warn everyone again and put better labeling on it. I see people using them in restaurants as booster seats and they're even stocked on the same shelf as the booster seats in Target and other places.
