anyone else a teacher???
The kids are so sick this year knock on wood that i have been fine but i am completely nervous. If it's not the flu, it's the stomach virus, or a fever and now there's this weird staph infection that has been in two districts. ugh the germs anyone worry?

Re: anyone else a teacher???
I work in a high school and am pretty nervous about this staph thing. The administration is disinfecting my school within the next few days because a student at the other hs in my district was infected. I have been assured this student is all better now and his mom thinks he got it over the summer... but it is still un-nerving.

Re: anyone else a teacher???
Im a kindergarten teacher and the germs are driving me crazy this year. The kids cough and sneeze all the time without covering their mouths. I have also had some children out with viruses but at least their parents kept them home.

Re: anyone else a teacher???
I sent two kids to the nurse because they were sick in class today and I didn't want to get their germs!

yup, i'm in middle school and if a kid doesn't look well or says they want to go the nurse i just sent them asap! they are also terrible about covering their mouths. i'm making sure to wash my hands plenty and use hand sanitizer after every class. That staph thing gets me worried too!

I do worry, but unfortunately there is nothing you can do about it. I am a fanatic about having them wash their hands, use wipes, etc. I have gotten one cold so far. Hopefully this will be the worst of it. Going to get the flu shot tomorrow just to be on the safe side.

Re: anyone else a teacher???
Not PG though I am teaching a unit on Communicable Diseases to my class of students with special needs. I taught them how disease is spread. Today, I showed them pictures like this one:
SNEEZE
that show them what comes out of a person's mouth when they sneeze and then we practiced sneezing into our elbows.
This is also a popular lesson that I know other teachers do to give kids a visual representation of how disease is spread:
"Dip hands into flour, completely covering them. Explain to students that when you sneeze, you cover your hands with invisible germs. The flour on your hands represents the germs. Then touch several surfaces. Ask students to observe what happens when you don't wash your hands. (Flour, germs are left behind.) Now have students touch the floury surface. Ask the students if the germs were spread. (Flour, germs stick to their skin.) Ask the students with flour on them, what would happen if they stuck their fingers into their mouth, or onto their food. (Germs, would go into their mouth.)"
I get freaked out by what kids may or may not be carrying and I am not PG. The best thing you can do is promote good health and handwashing.

Re: anyone else a teacher???
I was pregnant last year w/ my 4th graders. I had a kid w/ the mumps!!! Countless viruses, and a lice infestation...I was freaking out....but all worked out fine. I was endlessly washing my hands & using sanitizer.

Yes - I plan on telling the school nurse sometime next week after I get some blood test results back.
