Circumsicion Question

Is anyone planning NOT to circumsize? (not sure if I'm spelling correctly). If so, do you mind telling me your reasons? FM is fine if you'd rather not post.

I'm curious--I hear more pros for circumsicion than cons, so I'm just wondering if there are good reasons not to do it that I'm unaware of.

Thank you!

Re: Circumsicion Question

I asked my DH about this, and he said he would like it to be done if we have a boy. So that is what we will do.

Re: Circumsicion Question

We are having a boy and won't be circumsing (sp) him. Our reasons for not doing it are there is no medical reason why you should and in England where we are both from it is not normal to circumsise, unless there is a religious or medical reason. The belief "back home" is that the foreskin is there for a reason, to protect the glans of the penis, which is why most people don't do it. I know that some people think it is cleaner to do it, but all a man has to do is pull it back and wash underneath it!

Re: Circumsicion Question

We didn't, and we won't circumcise this one either. When I researched and found it wasn't medically necessary I knew I wouldn't put my DS through that kind of pain for no real benefit.

The AAP doesn't recommend it anymore, its not medically necessary. The circumcision rate is about 57% so lots of people are choosing not to.

If you don't circumcise there isn't any extra cleaning, just wipe it like a finger, you don't retract the foreskin.

ETA: There have been studies that show that circumcision removes the most sensitive parts of the penis.

Re: Circumsicion Question

If we were to ever have a son I had always thought about this. I personally decided I did not want to do it after my research. Reasons simply that there are no medical reasons and we Americans seem to be the only ones who are obsessed with it. DH on the other hand wants to do it, but after I showed him the researched he is on the fence leaning towards not doing it. I have to say this is one main reason why I am afraid of having a son. Making this decision. It's all personal and I don't judge people either way on their decisions.

Re: Circumsicion Question

We didn't have DS circumsiced. I had left the choice to DH and he was didn't know what to do (DH is). I didn't it was important for DS to be but again I left it up to DH. Well while I was in labor and the nurse kept asking and DH kept saying I don't know I finally said no he will not be.
I personally didn't see a need and we are also for eurpoean deceant and it is not common their. I actually thought it was odd that my DH was since his parents were born here but I think they just went along with what the custom was here. I don't think their is a right or wrong.

Re: Circumsicion Question

We are having it done. At first, our decision was totally based on religion. It is a given that Jewish male will be circumcised. I decided to look further into it and I did some reading. There are benefits of circumcision that are not related to my religion.

Thanks for the replies! Looks like I should do some more research. This one was up to DH originally, but he hasn't done anything but ask what I think.Chat Icon

I had read about some benefits to circumscion recently, but I haven't seen too much that indicated it was good not to do it, other than the obvious, not putting your child through a procedure he doesn't really need.

If we have a Chat Icon he will be circumcised.
I know all about the proper cleaning and all that jazz, but honestly, my reason for it is stricktly because I dated someone who wasn't and it was a deal breaker, if you know wghat I mean......

If our baby is a Chat Icon , then us too. Also, like CurlieGirl, in college I had a fling with an uncircumcised guy and it was kind of a turn off.

pretty much the same reasons, both of us are from Europe and we have never heard of circumcision until we came here...

and for the girls that are saying that uncircumcised penises dont "look" attractive, sorry but either way penis is not an attractive thing Chat Icon

i also am from England and my son is now 9 months my husband is american i agree so much with your post we DID NOT have it done and i have very strong reasons for not doing it that piece of skin is there for a reason just like your eyelashes or nose hair i dont know how clean an open wound in a dirty diaper 24 hours a day is either Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon and as far as BD with an uncircumsized man as 1 person put a deal breaker is just ridiculous. now i know some people do it for relegious reasons or medical then that is a different matter but to argue it done for any other reason i simply do not understand. i am not trying to offend anyone these are my feelings do with them what you want.

I think my post came across that way, but I was referrring to actually having a physical problem with it. I got a ton of yeast infections from my ex and it was definitely because of it......

also, my DS, if it is a boy, won't be sitting around in a dirty diaper 24 hours a day......and the cut actually heals pretty quickly, won't last forever....

"and as far as BD with an uncircumsized man as 1 person put a deal breaker is just ridiculous."

And even if I WAS the type to do it because of looks, that's MY prerogative, just like another poster said, to each his own.....we don't flame on this board, BTW.....

Do all hospitals ask? Or do Catholic hospitals just automatically do this?
I'm just curious.

all hospitals will ask you what you want to do, they do not automatically do it. Why would you think a catholic hospital would automatically do it, just wondering

I don't, that's why I asked.

I am giving birth in a Cathlic hospital, so it was only relevant to ask about that.

I think it is also what your are used to, in England we are used to seeing uncircumcised willy's. I have been with my DH 10 years and never had an infection. Chat Icon

Re: Circumsicion Question

DS wasn't circumcised because he was born in Ireland. However, we had already made the decision not to circumcise anyway because DH doesn't believe in it. He is from Argentina and circumcisions aren't routine there
