 Computer/PC question
Why do people say PC instead of computer? PC stands for personal computer, right? In general conversation, I would think it could be assumed if you say "my computer" you would be talking about your personal computer, not some crazy super computer that runs the internets. Is there a reason that I'm not aware of or is it just one of those things that we do??

PC = personal computer If you have a Mac for instance you would not refer to your computer as a PC you'd say "My Mac"

Okay I get that. But doesn't that separate us all instead of bringing us apart?
(I call my mac my computer, so does every other mac user I know. We're lovers, not fighters)
ETA: Mac is the brand, but isn't my MacBook still my personal computer? I own it and use it for my personal business. I wouldn't expect people to say "My Dell."
Maybe it's all too much for me to wrap my head around.

 Re: Computer/PC question
I take pride in saying "my mac" and cringe at the thought of using my "PC" while at work...
  I'm a mac snob

 Re: Computer/PC question

Thanks!! It seems like PC is just a holdover term:

In their early years personal computer was interchangeable with Microcomputers and home computers. Often, the term "personal computer" is used exclusively for computers running the Microsoft Windows operating system, but this is erroneous. For example, a Macintosh running Mac OS and an IBM PC compatible running Linux are both personal computers. This confusion stems from the fact that the term "PC" is often used as a shorthand form for "IBM PC compatible" and historically Mac OS has run on non-IBM compatible hardware like the PowerPC architecture. Newer personal computing devices have had their OS wars with WindowsCE struggling with PalmOS in the PDA markets and now the cell phone devices have gotten powerful enough to start a whole new struggle to define the personal computer, its operating system and how we use it in our daily lives.

 Re: Computer/PC question
Typing .... PC = two letters, "Computer" = 8 letters
Speaking, PC = two syllables, Computer = 3 syllables.
Just pure efficiency on my part.
