Health Insurance Claim - How Long?

In August DH was hospitalized in Europe and we paid out of pocket. I finally got all of the paperwork from the hospital so that I can process the claim through my insurance company. Any idea on how long it will take before I hear from them, and before I see a reimbursement?

TIA

when I worked in insurance an out of country claim could take 3 months to 8 months depends on if there were problems, translation etc.

Call them weekly. That's what I had to do in a similar situation in the past.

Everytime you call them tell them you want at status update as to where the claim is.

Try to get the name of the person who is working on the claim and memorize their direct line.

I was hospitalized in Mexico 2 years ago. I had to pay out of pocket. Once I submitted all the bills and HCFAs it was about a month and a half until I recieved my check. I had Oxford at the time. I was so happy to get the check since it was a sizeable amount.

Thanks for giving me hope! I would be happy if I get reimbursed by Christmas!

Ask them what the policy is for turnaround time and mark it on your calandar, then if its not in your hands by then, call and get a supervisor. They will work on it for you.
