Re: Moms who buy Organic...

King Kullen by me has a whole organic section and there's a small organic market just down the road from me. It's expensive, but good in a pinch.

I think most supermarkets now have an organic section, if I'm not mistaken.

There's also a Wild by Nature a few towns over.

I wish I could find one up here.

I don't buy all organic...just dairy, produce and meats. I get it at Stop & Shop when I go shopping.

Are you on LI? There are quite a few of them on LI... I know my mom belongs to one out in Suffolk.

Re: Moms who buy Organic...

I got into it through my neighbors, who started the co-op for the farm we joined. If you do a google search there's a bunch of websites that list local farm co-ops in your area.

Here is a good one - it lists a few for Long Island under New York:

Farm Co-op list

Ours costs $540 for the season which runs for about 7-8 months. We get a grocery bag full of veggies, fruit and herbs, and in the fall, fresh apple cider. It's enough to feed a family of 4 for a week (and then some).

I plan to make my own baby food rather than buy jars. It is a very personal choice, I think, and not one to be pushed onto others. I have to say before I got sick I tried to eat organic & healthy but once I got married I stopped b/c DH thought the prices of the food were ludicrous. Well 3 years and many Dr/hospital visits later, he does not bug me about the cost. It is much higher though, and it is not always readily available. Some organic places will not sell greenhouse produce, so you cannot get things out of season.

there is a little farm I found in East Northport - makijian (something like that) and they grow alot of the stuff they sell - they also raise their own chickens - so fresh organic chicken and eggs there too!
