Work related question about paychecks

So, I am starting a new job tomorrow. At my last job, we were paid on the 15th and the last day of the month. I started working there on the 26th of April and got a paycheck for 5 days on the 30th.

My DH said that if it is teh same at this new job (15th and last day of the month) I won't get paid until October 15thChat Icon

Is that true??

Re: Work related question about paychecks

Every job I've been to, they've held back the first check, so it's possible you won't get paid until the 15th, and that check will only be for this week, since the end-of-the-month check is for one week, and they'll process it after the 30th, and give you the check on the 15th. The check on October 31st will be from the 1st to the 15th.

I would check with their HR, to see how they run payroll, though. Every place is different.

I'll be asking tomorrow, I figured that I'd give myself something else to panic about before tomorrowChat Icon

I've had MANY jobs and the only job that ever held a check was when I worked for NYS--they held it for FIVE WEEKS!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

actually, if it is the same as the new job, then you will get a check for 3 days on the 28th (since the 30th is a Sunday)

Well, I'm starting tomorrow, so it would be 3 days, right?

Re: Work related question about paychecks

Withhout knowing the pay frequency and pay dates, it's really hard to guess when you will receive your first check.

My company pays every other Tuesday & transmits the info on the Thursday before. We don't hold back the first week. If you start prior to the transmittal date, you will receive a check on the next pay date for the days you worked. If you start after that, you will have to wait until the next pay period. The first paycheck is never direct deposit so if for some reason the new person flakes, we can void the check and pay for actual days worked.

Good luck on your new job!!

Re: Work related question about paychecks

It all depends on how fast HR uploads your info into the system. If you started working & had your information in before the pay period "cutoff date", then you will most likely receive a check - even if it is for 5 days. I've never had a company hold back a paycheck from me.

Direct deposit may take longer- It all depends on your bank & if they have a relationship with your company (its usually the larger companies & banks).
