A little drastic, but just brainstorming..and venting...

Have any of you thought of moving since you had your child? I have DD in daycare 43 hours a week and it is FU#($( killing me right now, she is crying when I leave her and it breaks my heart, she is soo tired and won't sleep when there are other people there playing.
We did 3x a week for 3 months and I was okay with it. Our mortgage is $2,500.00 a month, daycare $1,100.00 a month and car payments, HIGH insurance, etc. and beleive me we are NOT living the high life, we have nice things but not excessive in any way. I feel like we can't save a dime and I am working while she is in daycare to save $$ for college and nice things for her, but there is nothing left over to do that anyway. Then I think daycare is temporary, once in school, I would probably work anyway. Just right now this is all driving me nuts.

Did anyone seriously think about moving ? If we have enough equity in our home we could have a GREAT low mortgage payment in the Carolina's.

Thanks for listening ladies.....thank YOU!

We are still entertaining. Especially after I showed DH the price of houses in Charlotte, NC.

I think about it every day! We have alot of equity so we could pay off debts, cars etc and buy something nearly outright or with a very low mortgage. My SO's job has locations worldwide and I keep teasing him to ask to be transferred but deep down I really mean it. The only thing that keeps me here now is my family. He is from Montreal so he has no family here. He talks about moving when I am ready, insisting that I am not ready to leave my family now - Im sure he is right too but I am tired of the bills here ---- LIPA and Cable are now the 2 things I hate most about living on LI. We browse the multiple listings for all different cities and one day I know we will pack it in.... just when?

Girls,, I am so happy I am not alone, yet I don't want you all to feel this way either.

Money is ruling our family and I don't like it at all. Chat Icon

I always said I would not move. That having a tiny house or small apartment in NY would be fine if it meant we could stay...

But when i see these beautiful, affordable homes elsewhere it really makes me wonder...especially when thinking about TTC #2....I would LOVE a home with a yard.

And it seems that everyone is moving somewhere else these days, including members of my own family. I just don't know.

We did it before DD was born for DH's promotion and while I do think it was the best thing for our family, it is very very hard being away from family & friends. (see my post yesterday about my meltdown) Financially it has been the best decision for us, but that doesn't make me miss everyone less. Chat Icon

Re: A little drastic, but just brainstorming..and venting...

Having moved away from LI for school and then we couldn't move back cause it was too expensive.

I would give anything to move back to LI to be near my family.

I live in New haven county in CT, it's not as bad as NY, but it's getting there just like Fairfield county and LI.

I can still buy a nice house here in a good neighborhood with a decent yard for at least 150K then that same house would go for in NY in the same area, but i MISS my family like crazy.

I've been up here for 7 years, and now that I have 2 kids, that's when I started missing my suport and family structure the most. It was no biggie when we were DINKS (dual income no kids)

If you do decide to move, even though it may be cheaper, think about the reality of being far from family, and all the things you take for granted now, you will surely miss, believe me you will. I know i do, I would give anything to have my grandma's meatballs and sauce every sunday like i used too, that's one of the things i took for granted.

Ramble over

We were going to go to Florida. When we were engaged we looked in Tampa and St. Petersburg. DH's family is there. I was hesitent b/c my grandmother was ill, she passed away in April 2005 and then my DH got called for the FDNY and here we are..and will be..foreverChat Icon Chat Icon

Every day! We even looked there but we bough our overpriced little house and now we are stuck. We would lose so much money if we sold anytime soon!

I have lived all over the place and even though I'm over an hour from my family now, it's much better than how far we were. Having a relationship with grandparents, I have found, is priceless for my kids and as much as I want to move out of the tristate area (even abroad) I'm not sure I could do that to our families or my kids.

I think about it all the time. I have family in Wilmington, NC so would relocate around them if we decided to move. But I have alot of family I am close with on LI and just don't think I could leave them.

We think about it all the time. But we realize that we wouldn't be happy being so far away from both of our families. Plus, you have to remember that everything is relative. Sure you can get a nicer house somewhere else for a lower price, but depending on your industry, you may also be making a lot less money.
