Errr.. to make a stink, or to not make a stink?

This is long... sorry!

3 weeks ago we went to Home Depot Expo to buy tile for our bathroom remodel. We bought 2 types of tile for our surround, one edger tile, and floor tile. As we were putting the order in, the saleswoman says "Oh, this is 12 cases, you need delivery" and then goes ahead and puts delivery on the order.

We goto the checkout and find out that delivery is ~150.00. We're a little ****** because it seemed like we didn't have an option, we were told that it was mandatory, and they didnt even tell us how much it was or ask us if we wanted it. We just HAD to have it.

Last week, they call and say "your tile is in, lets schedule delivery." So DH schedules for today, they are coming between 12 and 3 (supposedly.) DH needs to schedule to work from home, so now its impacted his job.

At 11AM today, Home Depot called him to let him know that his tile should be in any day now, and that when its ready they will call him so we can pick it up.

Excuse me?

Yeah - so it looks like for the 4 different types of tiles that we purchased, the lady that took our order only selected 2 types of tiles to be delivered to us. The rest for instore pickup. Even
funnier, the one set of tiles she is having delivered? The border - 50 pieces no bigger than 2 inches a piece; so those will fit in a shoebox.

So we just spent ~150.00 in delivery for half my order.. now we need
to go there and pick up our other tile when it finally comes in...
***?

DH looked thru the reciept, and half the items are marked as delivery, half as pickup. I'm sure they will say that since its written that way on the reciept, too bad. But I still feel that it's their F-up that they only marked half as delivery? I wanted to make sure that the tile was right - in no way would I think that only half my tile would be delivered when I paid for delivery...

Am I wrong for wanting a refund on delivery???

I would demand a refund for delivery or demand that they deliver everything for the same price. I have heard so many horror stories about that place. I would definetely complain!

Well, we can't even do that, since they only deliver 9-5 Mon-Fri. The 'non delivery' tile isn't even in yet, so we would need to schedule a second delivery window, take more time off of work, etc...

I just want a refund of the delivery!

Any suggestions on where to complain? Does the 'store manager' person (or whoever they shove in front of me when I ask for a manager) have any pull? Or should I just cut to the chase and call the main customer care number at Home Depot?

DH doesnt want to complain until all the tile is in hand - in case they feel spiteful.

DEFINITELY complain. And keep complaining until they do something about it. If someone can't help you, ask to speak to their supervisor - not matter how many you have to talk to.

Get everyone's name you spoke to - and just keep telling them that this is "unacceptable."

Re: Errr.. to make a stink, or to not make a stink?

make a stink and demand a refund...

they'll try to pass anything off if you don't act as your own advocate.

mom bought about 2000 sq ft of wood flooring through them, and when it was being installed on the first day (I was house-sitting), I noticed a big difference between plank colors... lo and behold, it was 2 different lot #'s Chat Icon

at first, the installer tried the ultimate... he tried to convince me they should continue to install the flooring and THEN sort it out Chat Icon yeah, that's the quick way to lose all right to fight against a botched job.

At any rate, I forced them to stop all work, and I brought the planks + lot #'s to expo ASAP, and spoke to the manager. We basically demanded all one lot... (duh, that's what we should have gotten from the start!) In the end, the vendor stopped production of the item (due to inconsistencies between lots... Chat Icon), and we got a HUGE discount on a higher quality floor.

moral of the long-winded story:
If you don't stick to your guns, you'll get the shaft... demand your refund!

Ask to speak with the manager of the store. If you arent' getting anywhere, then go with the 800 number, but use this option as a bargining tool to speak with the store manager. Things will go faster this route.

Re: Errr.. to make a stink, or to not make a stink?

from our experience, it wasn't necessary to speak to the store manager.... just talk to the department manager... He took care of everything for us, despite us having a $10k+ problem

reserve the store manager if you get nowhere with the first person.... I doubt it will get to that point for only $150
