Cost of granite countertops?
We have a very small kitchen in an apartment and I just got an estimate for my countertops! I have two counters 71 x 24 and 64 x 21 and the estimate came in at 6,000. Is this right? We live in the city, so I know that prices are a bit higher, but I didn't budget that much $$$$ for granite!

DH works with countertops and he said and I quote "you're getting hosed unless it's a one-of-a-kind slab of granite" Something like that should really run you about $2000 including template and installation. HTH

I have a tiny kitchen and just had granite installed last week (I think it was 24 sq ft) for under $2000

maybe you can try granite tiles, instead of a ful slab of granite which tends to be more expensive

I just figured out that it would be approximately 17 square feet! That is $385 per sq ft! These people must think that I am a nut! It sucks being in the city because many people think that it equates $$$$$!!! UGH!

well, I can tell you that home depot expo center charges between about $63-$110+ per sq ft installed.....
Above $300 per sq ft is ridiculous. call elsewhere!

That's insane I have a lot more square footage than you and the retail price of my granite was A LOT less than that.
BTW: Home Depot does not have the best prices for granite. You are much better off going to a marble/granite distributor.

yeah, I second that. Home depot expo is where I go to find the upper price range for stuff 
so most granite should cost below $100/sq ft installed.... even the fancy stuff. I bet there's some granite distributor in brooklyn or the bronx that installs in manhattan....
