Hardwood and I don't like it. I want something I can really SCRUB and CLEAN, and I don’t' feel that you can do that with hardwood. I can't wait to get tile.

We currently have laminate, but I would love to do reclaimed wood in the kitchen when we remodel!

Re: What do you have in your kitchen...

I have wood that flows into the dinningroom, was really our only option. I love the look of the floor, but is hard on the hips and feet ( if barefoot!)

The previous owners put linoleum peel and stick tiles Chat Icon in our kitchen.

hate them.

We're planning to install hard wood flooring sometime in the near future.

Re: What do you have in your kitchen...

Thanks everyone! I guess there are pros & cons to every flooring out there. I know for me it would be easier to just have all the same flooring because we have such an open floor plan. The kitchen, dining room & LR are basically one great room I guess you would call it and that leads to the hall to the bedrooms which are all hardwood. Hopefully we are going to do the hardwood, but haven't decided 100% yet. But we still love the look of ceramic tile too. Chat Icon

We have some sort of fake wood, which I'm not crazy about. It tends to look grubby, but maybe that's due to the fact that we haven't really mopped it yet either!

My preference is for tile in kitchens--it's the easiest to clean and spills come up well.

Re: What do you have in your kitchen...

so we have really hard porcelain tile (that looks like terra cotta tile, and is much more sturdy)

LOVE the look..... my feet HATE it. It's sooooo hard.... and I usually am barefoot at home. However, it is easy to clean, and if you spill something, or god forbid, the dishwasher or sink floods the kitchen, it's no worry....

My feet vote for wood... but wood would be destroyed if there was a flood or the refrigerator leaked and it wasn't noticed in time....

I don't like the look of laminate, but it definitely solves both issues Chat Icon

"It looks grubby"......I guess the mopping would help. Chat Icon But you have time for that.

I would like tile in the kitchen, but it's hard with the open floor plan I think. I didn't want the saddles in the middle of the floor like they are now.

Here is the picture of the kitchen the way it is now. The little wood part you see is the living room. See my problem. Chat Icon

We currently have tile and we are replacing it with natural stone "Travertine". I will post a pic when it is done.

I love your tile! so pretty. Can I ask where you bought it? We want to tile our kitchen - for now we are stuck with the awful peel-n-sticks.

Re: What do you have in your kitchen... (UPDATED w/ PIC OF KITCHEN)

We did hardwood. There was a lot of debate about it. But I am happy we did it because it flows really well into the dining room. We also thought about doing cork because its environmentally friendly, and really cool looking, but the previous owners left a ton of hardwood and we didn't want it to go to waste.

you can kind of see here where the two rooms go together...

Please don't take this offensively, I'm asking b/c I don't know...

polished concrete sounds kind of cold and uninviting. I understand you like it but did you find it difficult to decorate around? I could see it working in the kitchen but what about the living room or bedroom?

Re: What do you have in your kitchen... (UPDATED w/ PIC OF KITCHEN)

no problem...

we bought our townhome as a new construction--- all the townhomes came with polished concrete floors--- it's actually a loft (modern)

it looks cold right now, b/c we still have to get color up on the walls. the white walls make it very "museum" looking.

we have area rugs in the great room, and the bedrooms have berber carpet, so it's not like our home has only concrete. the bathrooms have tile.

we are decorating our home like we would any other. clean, simple lines.
