I just fmed you this, but try poking holes in them all. She won't want to suck them, and if that doesn't work, cut the tips off and tell her they're broken.

Re: BTDT moms- pacifiers
DS was never a paci baby, so I don't have direct experience, but my cousin did the paci-fairy. She had her son help pack up all the pacis and the paci-fairy came over night and took them all. For giving up the pacis, he got a big boy treat.

Re: BTDT moms- pacifiers
My experience is to go cold turkey. It was easy for us since Joseph came down with cox sackie, handed us the pacifier & said "Fire hurts".
When he asked for it after that, I said "Pacifier is all gone." He thrashed around at night like a smoker without his cigarettes but after about 4 days, he was ok. Crankiness lasted another 2 weeks. I would hold him & comfort him (which is ultimately what a pacifier does but she's better off with a parent comforting her) at night when he relied on it the most .
Good luck!
Now if I can just stop Maddie from thumb sucking again, I'd be done.

Re: BTDT moms- pacifiers
She's almost 2 and no where near ready to give it up and I am not ready to deal with what giving it up entails. I don't even ask my ped's opinion at this point. My friends kids used them well past 3 and they're all fine. I'm not stressing about it yet. Probably not the best attitude but she is too attached to it and I honestly just don't want to deal with it right now. Maybe when she's got all her teeth I'll consider it.

Re: BTDT moms- pacifiers
18 months and no where near giving it up and I'm not looking to. The ped did not mention it yesterday either.
I think you should NOT give it to her during the day even if she wants it. Try something else...like some cold fruit--maybe it's teething?
Alyson also only uses it to sleep/nap.
I've heard tons of stories....one that sticks in my mind which I think would work for Olivia considering how smart she is....
Make a deal with her at a store....she picks something out she wants, and then when you go to pay, she pays the cashier with her paci. Get the cashier in on it too....make a big deal out of it, etc.

Same here at 9 months old. She never missed them. Gianna only used them for naps and bedtime and they stayed in her crib.

Re: BTDT moms- pacifiers
This is a cute story, my friends daughter (who is now 14) had a paci until she was 4 (!!) anyway, one day Gracie wanted a lamp next to her bed, so Mary said "Gracie, big girls who have reading lamps next to their bed don't have dodies" So Gracie gave up her dodie in exchange for a bedside lamp. It went really well, a few weeks later Mary took Gracie out to see a friend of here and Mary was telling her friend how Gracie was a big girl and didn't need a paci anymore and she said to Gracie...Gracie, you don't even miss your dodie do you? and she said "No, I don't miss it, but I think about an awful lot"
I thought that was cute.

Re: BTDT moms- pacifiers
At what age are you suggesting to tell them its time to give it up? My 10 month old cannot go sleep without one and wakes up in the middle of the night looking for it. Once in a while we will have to get up at 5am b/c he knocked all the binkies out of the crib and will scream bloody murder until we give it back to him. I am DREADING the going cold turkey as this kid can scream!
