Installing a convertable car seat rear facing...anyone have problems or is just my "know it all" dh???
For those of you who have the alpha omega elite by cosco...did you have a problem installing it rear facing in the car????
We have an older Durango and for some reason, the latch system belt, doesnt reach where its supposed to. Id rather not use the shoulder belt since latch is more recommended. My dh and I are fighting like crazy because after hours of trying to install it, we went back to putting the infant seat back in for now.
As you can see the time it is now...we are NOT GETTING ALONG over this freaken seat. I dont know why these things only seem to happen to us..or maybe its because my dh is DUMB??????????? UGH..I am just so frustrated right now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sorry, I am not much help since I don't have that carseat but I just wanted to add that latch isn't always the safest. You are suppose to try both the seat belt and latch to see which is the best fit for you car/carseat.

does the belt have te be restrung....we had the same problem when we went from rear to forward...the latch attachments pass through a different slot in order to reach
I don't know if I'm making sense the way I am explaining it, but it does not reach if it is the wrong slot
did you look at the pics in the manual

what kind of seats do you have in the car? (cloth/leather/pleather)
In my old car, it had leather seats and for the world, that seat wouldn't sit still without a seat saver AND a mighty tite locking clip. I didn't have LATCH in that car so it wasn't an option. I had both the locking clip the seat came with and the mighty tite (they go on opposite sides of the seat belt) and the seat saver otherwise it simply wouldn't install correctly. I managed to get them in so well with that method that I ditched the LATCH method completely in our newer cars (DH's car is newer and we have a new 3rd car for me) because I had trouble getting that to work.
This is the mighty tite: They sell them at Toys R Us.

The LATCH system isn't always the best, and can only be used up to 40 lbs (obviously not a rear-facing issue, but something to think about later.)
If it's that hard to get it positioned and tightened, I would take it to a police station and get it installed properly. You definitely don't want an improperly installed seat.

I would take it to a place and have it professionally checked. I have a Britax, but when I turned it forward facing, I had to reverse the sides the Latch connectors were on so that they weren't upside down (they come installed for rear facing). I have an Envoy and it was tough to get it in their right, but its all figured out now.
And while Latch is recommended, there is nothing wrong with seat belt installation. As long as its locked when installed, if done properly, it can be just as tight.
