i can't believe what she said
with the problems at home... silly me, i vented a bit with my mother.
i was talking to her this morning as i was walking the dog (by the way, since i've been walking the dog for 30 minutes every morning, i've lost 5lbs).
she went on to tell me (without solicitation) that i NEED to have gastric bypass!!!!!!!!
yes, i'm overweight. but i'm not heavy enough for something as serious as a MAJOR OPERATION!
i'm so heartbroken.

First off - congrats on losing the 5lbs! That's a great start.
And for your mom to suggest having a major operation is a bit extreme at this point.

My parents while they supported me when I chose to have gastric bypass, never ever suggested it to me!

I am sure she did it because she cared & is worried about you, but wow! That is just something you shouldn't suggest and noone wants to hear. When I decided to have gastric bypass, my parents were apprehensive at first & then very supportive, but they would never have recommended it. My OB/GYN was the first to mention it to me and I was shocked hearing it from her, let alone my mom.

holy crap! Congrats on the 5lbs..excellent job and keep up the good work.
I wouldn't even acknowledge she said that. Even if she brings it up again, I would change the subject. She will realize that it's not something you are willing to discuss.
If you are serious about weight loss and your health, you will do what's right for you. Not all overweight people have gastric by-pass. It's not a cure all. You have to change your behavior.
She was just trying to help, but you have your boundaries and you will do what's right for you. Don't let anyone including your mom bring you down.
Good luck for a healthier you! And, hey, the dog loves it too!

Congratulations on the 5 pounds!!! That's terrific!! 
Sometimes moms just say things and don't realize the effect it has. When I turned 16 my mom offered me a nose job as a gift. I know she didn't mean any harm by it, she just was trying to let me know that she would pay for it if I wanted one.
I'm sorry she hurt your feelings! I wouldn't even entertain it and try to block it out. You are doing great!

on losing 5lbs. that's fantastic! as for your mother...........we must share the same mom! honey, sometimes i think they speak without thinking! don't let her comment get you down. she just wasn't thinking. my mother is always telling me i need to lose weight, but she's the first person to ram a plate of pasta down my throat! go figure!

I understand that she is your mother and she is probably concerned for your health, but there is a time and place to mention and say these things...not when you're venting to her about problems at home and are volnurable to get really hurt...

My family has a habit of saying things like that too. My grandmother said to me 1 month after having DS "are you sure you dont have a nother baby in there". My response is, "I'm sorry I can not be as perfect as you." Somtimes when its family they think they can say whatever they want but dont realize it can still hurt your feelings.

Mothers have a knack for that sort of thing. Don't give her the satisfaction of letting it get to you. 5 lbs is a great start! Plus walking the dog is a nice way to take some time for yourself in the morning.
