It makes absolutely no senses that they would throw it away. They would just put on their questionaire that if you have a tattoo you can't donate. There is no way they would waste any time or money on drawing blood from a person if they were going to throw it away.
I couldn't donate for a year after going to Costa Rica. If I had contracted malaria it could take up to a year to show symptoms.

wow...that's shocking. i know they test all the blood and if something is wrong with it, they will contact you. Perhaps they save it and test it AGAIN at a later date? What a waste to just toss it?!

it doesnt make sense to me either the more i think about it.
i will be seeing the girl who told me tonight. (her tattoo artist told her)
i will ask her about it .there must have been some sort of a miscommunication.

EVERYONE - THIS IS NOT TRUE.
There was no need to post something untrue like this as if it were fact and get people upset about it. The OP later posted that this was something "she heard." The facts seem to point that it's not true (or rational). If you read all of the posts here, it clearly is not true.

You might want to edit your original post to say that this is just something you heard and not the outright truth. At least until you get more information, I think it would be better to edit your post to reflect that you don't know it's true. Your post indicates that you know this to be fact when you don't. People are getting upset (unnecessarily!) about something that is obviously not true.

i edited my OP.
BUT if there is a big protest against it, there must be some truth to it.
maybe its only people with TONS of tattoos, since they obv have had alot more needles in them, i dont know, i will find out more info tonght.
BUT this came from my BFF who has luekemia and is always needing blood transfusions, someone who should want everyone to give blood. she told me not to even bother.

First of all, that was unnecessary. Please point out where on that chart it says that they throw out blood if you've gotten a tattoo in the last 5 years. You obviously didn't see the original unedited post. As you can see above, I suggested that the OP edit it b/c she was posting something that is not true, or at least she didn't know it to be true (other than it was somethins she heard).
It says you cannot donate blood if you've had a tattoo in the past year. That's not in dispute. The OP (before it was edited!) said that take your blood and then throw out your blood if you've had a tattoo anytime in the past 5 years. THAT is not true and nowhere on that chart.

I'm honestly curious how they would know. Is she saying that if they see you have tattoos they will throw away your blood? I don't see why they'd waste the time and resources to take your blood in the first place. I'd like to know what she says when you do talk to her again. Thanks.

if there wasnt some truth to it, why would there be soooo many ppl fighting it
and all they have to do is LOOK at me to see i have tons of tattoos. they could tkae it from me and toss it out as soon as i leave for all i know. if they dont want to take chances, they dont want to take chances.
NOW.... lets DROP it.
i obv dont have enough info -yet- to back up what i said, and you are just causing unnecarry drama.

I don't think I'm the one causing unnecessary drama.
I think posting unqualified statements and not letting people know they are based on hearsay only is dangerous - and people shouldn't rely on them. It would be awful if everyone just believed what was posted and those of us with tattoos just decided to stop giving blood.
