Spinoff: The Loyalty of Friends
If you have a serious falling out/fight with someone... would you expect that your friends would 'take your side' even if they liked the other person?
If you had a friend who got in a fight with another friend - would you avoid one of them because of the 'wrong' or 'injury' that they caused the other person?

Re: Spinoff: The Loyalty of Friends
I would never expect that of someone.
But if they knew what happened and it was that bad of a thing, they have made that decision on their own.
That's a whole new ball of wax though, and usually means the end of a lot more than one friendship. You can hang out with this person, but only if that person isn't there. That s u c k s.

I'll be your friend. I am a sucker for alliteration.
to answer the Q, no.
this happened very recently in my small circle of gf's.
I had a complete falling out with one girl over ish from my wedding, and she was LIVING with my MOH at the time.
I never said BOO about it to MOH. I let her make up her own mind. BUT dumb exfriend did some f-up things AND trashed talked...dug her own grave with MOH and she is no longer friends with ANYONE in our group.

Glad I could oblige.
So now we have to get in a fight and see whose side Jeannie takes.
This is way too much work for me.
I'm going back to alliteration.

Re: Spinoff: The Loyalty of Friends
As much as I would like to offer up solidarity to my friends if they had a falling out with someone, if I didn't believe in what they were fighting for or about, I would stay neutral.
I've had this happened with friends in the past and I tried to remain Switzerland with both of them. I would never expect a friend to get upset with another friend over a falling out we've had.

I am the same way.
However in a situation where my friend is trying to play Switzerland, I do question the loyalty of someone.
For me to have a falling out with someone, it's pretty serious. I usually have to be wronged in a major way. If someone tries to stay neutral where I think it's cut & dry, I would probably rather lose their friendship.

Re: Spinoff: The Loyalty of Friends
I would try to remain neutral as best I could unless one of the friends did something terribly wrong. Then I may reconsider this person as a friend.

Re: Spinoff: The Loyalty of Friends
If my friend and I got into a fight it is no ones "duty" to pick sides. It's OUR fight not there's. The same goes for friends that are fighting. I refuse to get in the middle of it. I either don't talk to either until the ranting stops or I explain at the very beginning that I am friends with bith and will not choose sides.

Re: Spinoff: The Loyalty of Friends
I like to fight my own battles and not drag people into the fight when its not necessary. I dont expect a mutual friend to feel like they have to pick a side. I feel like that person will take away from it what they choose. At the same time, I am not one to hide my feelings. If I am fighting with friend A and friend B asks me what happened I will tell her.
