okay-what if i dont go for a 3 hour. can they really make me?

i know i failed because i do eat too much sugar. I only cut down the day before my 1hr test.
What if i put myself on more of a diet of lower sugar?

Eating sugar doesn't cause GD. I don't know that they can have you arrested, but they don't do the test because its fun for them. It has serious health implications, so pretty please just go and take the test like you are supposed to!

I eat 27,000 pounds of sugar per day and I passed. What you eat doesn't really matter on whether you develop GD. The reason they test for it is because it can have serious implications on your baby. Most girls pass the 3 hour, so please go take it.

Its really not so bad..just time consuming. They dont let you leave b/c you are technically suppose to "rest" during the test.

My neighbor across the street doesnt do the GD test..for whatever reason I dont know..she also smokes throughout her pregnancies though!

No they cant make you take the test but it is really not a big deal to take it.

i am just such a baby with things like this and i know how selfish it sounds. I'll see what my dr. has to say. He hasn't called me back yet.

it has nothing to do with the amount you consume - it's how your body handles sugar.

I would think not going would put both you and the baby at risk - as someone else said - they don't do these tests for nothing.

I stressed about the test as well but it really wasn't bad at all. It was boring and a pain with all the needles but if you have pretty decent veins like i do, it was much easier than I anticipated.

I wouldn't skip it even though I doubt they can force you because why would you want to put you or your baby at risk?

Honestly, from the doctor's standpoint - I can't imagine him saying "okay, skip it." He would be putting himself in a very bad position and I can't imagine he would want to absorb that kind of liability if something goes wrong.

Bring a friend, a good novel and some music. It won't be that bad!

I'd follow Dr.'s recommendations and take the test. GD is better diagnosed and treated. The test isn't that bad, it just takes time. It's far better to know what risks you and your baby are facing than to refuse this test.

If diagnosed with GD it's 10-12 weeks of a special, and very healthy diet and some extra monitoring. Then something like 97% of women's blood sugar goes back to normal.

This is not a mandatory test and very few tests really are. My sister skipped all GD testing. I do not agree with that decision, even though her pregnancies went well.

My husband has juvenile diabetes and he has a very clear understanding of what any form of diabetes can do to a person if left undiagnosed or untreated. It could harm you and your baby. He would never let me skip those tests, even though I do not have any family history on my side.

It is not from eating too much sugar. I don't think they can make you take it but you will want to know if you have it so you can start eating the recommended diet. If you have it you will have to check your blood and if you can control your diet you will have to take insulin. It is important for the health of you and the baby.

Not taking it just puts more harm in the babies was.. Have GD is serious...The baby can be in harms way if it is not setected. I had it with both pregnanices. It has nothing to do with what you eat.. it is how your body breaks down glucose.. which is in Breads and Fruits. I went cerazy with my First Pg and gained a ton of weight really fast and it took forever to take off.. tis time I was so careful with my Gd gained only 30 lbs with twins and came home from the hospital lighter than I was when i webt to my first Appt.

GD is not a pain is just takes a lot of work and thinking. You have to read every label under the sun and really watch what you are eating.

Just ake the test.. i actually went tot the library and took out a really cheesy romance novel and downloaded really good music onto my IPOD and the test flew by....

You simply MUST go. You only failed by 6 points, you just might pass the 3-hour test. Then again, you might not...and that is why you have to take it.

Lucas was moved to the NICU for a stomach issue, he was the only baby there except for about 10 hours...there was a baby born very early due to severe complications of GD because his mother refused proper treatment and diet. The baby had to be transferred to another hospital after a life-saving c-section and a series of procedures. You could hear the anger in the drs. voices because the mother had put this poor baby at such a risk. For your baby, go.

I am not going to tell you not to go, if your doctor is ordering it for you, you should go. But here in the UK we don't do any tests and we have high rates of healthy babies. But if your doctor is ordering it for you...go. If you fail, you fail!

I don't mean to sound harsh, but I know if I didn't go for a test recommended by my doctor and something went wrong, I would have a hard time dealing with that.

I agree with the other posters, it is in the best interest of you and the baby to have the test done.

I would go, its recommended for a reason. I am petrified to find out that I have GD too but getting pregnant is also about sacrifice of so many things for your child, this is one of them. Are you afraid of the results or sitting there for 3 hours?

Eating sugar does NOT fail you. Eating organically, perfectly balanced meals does NOT help you pass. This is all about how your pregnant body reacts. You cannot pass or fail the test based on anything other than body chemistry.

If you do not find out if you have GD you are risking your health and your baby's health. I had GD. Untreated I would have ended up in the hospital in a diabetic coma or just about. My body NEEDED insilin. It was no a '"nice to have" but required for my body to function properly.

This is totally up to you, of course. No one can force you to do anything. But it is ill-advised not skip this test IMO.

You're not a doc, you should go. I understand not wanting to go, but I would never jeopardize the health of me or my kid by avoiding the doc. Not smart.

i dont understand WHY. its not like you are getting a huge needle. if i remember correctly its just a finger prick. its just boring to wait 3 hrs. get the test. its for the well being of your baby AND you. i had GD while i was pregnant and i controlled it with diet. if you do have GD and dont take care of yourself, like other posters have said, there can be many complications. please get the test.
