My Fh found.... UPDATE
... a tick on him this morning! (We can't even figure out where it came from... we checked the dog - Nothing... we checked me -Nothing. We're not really outdoorsy people, so we're stumped!) The area he found it in was all irritated, but didn't hurt. He took the tick off of him and put it in a Ziplock (I on the other hand would've FREAKED and flicked the thing off without even thinking).
He has a Dr's appointment this afternoon to get it checked out. He thinks he's going to be sent to the hosiptal to get a million shots for Limes Disease.
What can he expect?
HELP!
UPDATE: Well, he went to the Dr. She took the tick and told him to come back in 6 weeks! He was so pisssed off especially because he left work early. A lot can happen in 6 weeks, so hopefully nothing major will happen.. GEEZ!!!

Re: My Fh found....
If the tick wasn't embedded it's extremely unlikely he has lyme disease. They might give him a blood test, but that would be about it.
I *am* outdoorsy and unfortunately frequently find ticks - usually before they have bitten into me, though.
Was the tick engorged and embedded into his skin or crawling on him?

Re: My Fh found....
when i had a tick the er dr had to cut it out of my skin. Stupid doctor threw it away and gave me antibiotic because I was getting a ring around the bite. I spent the whole night throwing up due to the antibiotics so I went to my regualr dr. and he said I should have been given the tick for testing or they should have had it tested. As for lyme disease they don't treat for it right away. They wait for a few signs first and this takes about a week to see the slightest sign. Then they give you shots for lyme disease.
ETA I hope everything works out well!

It was definitely engorged, but it wasn't embedded. FH noticed it yesterday but thought it was a freckle ( ), and then what tipped him off today that it wasn't was the irritation around it and the fact that it was bigger.

Re: My Fh found....
We just went through this with my father. My dad had a lot of blood work done. That's what your DH will probably have done as well. We just got my dad's results back. They caught it just in time and he was on the antibiotics just in time as well. My father had a few dr. appointments (like 2 other ones) so they can keep checking it. Thank Goodness he doesn't have Lymes. Its good your DH has an appointment. It never hurts.

He saved the tick, right? It's more likely than not that the tick he had on him isn't the type to carry lyme disease. It's good that he saved it to show the doctor. I'm sure it will be fine - but I promise, he probably won't have to get a million shots or anything!

Yeah, he saved it, so that it isn't a carrier. I'll keep you all posted

Re: My Fh found....
You need to find out if it was a dog tick or a deer tick. Dog ticks are harmless, but you need to treat your dog because that's most likely where it came from.
If it was a deer tick it's probably random, but he has to get checked for limes.

Glad it hear he's being proactive.
I wouldn't worry about taking off work. If he didnt do anything & had untreated Lyme disease the results could be devastating.
Better safe than sorry!

Re: My Fh found.... UPDATE
HI, there I work in the medical field and we had this happen b/4. Usually when we take the tic we send it out to the lab and we get the results back in with in less then a week. For instants we have one on Saturday and we got the results on Wed. So if the tic had lymes then those results will show that and then they will put his on ABX. I hope that helps.

I think he's just annoyed because they could've told him over the phone to wait 6 weeks before coming in. But yes, thank GOD he's being proactive about this!

Thank you! Thankfully he saved the tic and gave it to them... now we wait.

Re: My Fh found.... UPDATE
My mom has Lymes...she apparently has had it for awhile and last year, they found a treatment that worked. So good thing he went to the doctor. I hope it's nothing.

Re: My Fh found.... UPDATE
Hopefully it's nothing...we have found ticks on ourselves and the dog quite a few times...the irritation may have just been from the tick trying to get in.
