This doesn't get any easier
We are giving up my brother's apartment since he probably won't be using it for quite a while. My nephew lived with him. He's 21. SO he was packing up the apartment and there are about 10-15 huge boxes to store. I offered to store some of it in my basement but after I found out how much stuff there is I don't have the room. So we were calling around today to get a storage room. These places close early on Sundays and we finally found one open until 4. So he runs down there only to find out he forgot his wallet so he couldn't rent one. His grandparents were helping him move the boxes so they were with him. Why couldn't they just open the account and get the storage access so we can bring the boxes down later? They let the place close up and watched the clerk leave.
So tomorrow somehow my nephew has to get down there and open the account. He doesn't drive. I'm working and so is DH..his grandfather may have to go with him.
He also doesn't have a place to live after tomorrow. His mother won't take him and neither will his grandparents. They think he's toomuch to handle. I offered my guest room for 2 weeks until he can find a place.
He has had over 2 months to find a place. He wants to stay local to his job since he has no car. I'm too far away and the cost of the taxi is prohibitive.
Not easy..and we are going to see my brother in a bit..
I feel so stressed out. I let DH have it earlier today so he finally did something for me. He's been so MIA..he called all the storage places for me.

Re: This doesn't get any easier
Dh really stepped up today. I really scared him. I went ape Sh!t on him.
He even offered my nephew to stay with us for a few weeks.
Now he is talking about my parents coming back to NY. He is realizing that it has to happen.
On a good note, I had the realtor appraise the condo in AZ and it looks like there will be a nice profit. Enough to bring mom and dad back and help them get settled. Dad won't have to work right away. We'll see when we sell it.
Freddy is doing well also..the nurse who had him today made sure he ate enough and he looked better. He won't eat enough unless prompted. Also, hospital food blows so who really wants to eat it? He actually stood on his one leg today with only a little bit of help.
I'll bring him something yummy on Tuesday.

Many hugs to you
Just thought of something when I read your second post - would it be easier for your parents to stay in your brother's apt when they first come - so they don't have to worry about finding a place right away? Just a thought~

that apartment was shuch a sh!thold that nobody should live there. I will get a new apartment for Freddy when he's ready. My parents can actually stay with me for a while so they can find something. At least I can really help if the sale of the condo is good. They can stay with me rent free and dad can look for a job. Temporarily of course..DH will probably kill me. I just hope that Freddy gets enough inpatient rehab to allow him to be able to live in his own place with some help. I don't know if that's ever going to happen. Mom wants him to come live with them, but dad has different ideas.
The more pressing issue is seeing what the insurance company will say tomorrow. They may say he has to go to a subacute place. I have to get the medicaid app in asap. This is tremendous pressure. I didn't sleep last night.

You've got a lot on your shoulders I give you a lot of credit. It was very nice of you to offer your guest bedroom...that's what family is for, right?

I give you so much credit for handling so much as well as you have. Good luck with the insurance evaluation.
As for the storage thing, I used to have one in Queens that came and picked up my stuff and moved it into the room for me.

I think it might be time to go apesh!t on everyone else that isn't contributing enough as well... hang in there
P.S. The home-cooked meals make a tremendous TREMENDOUS difference - I did that for my dad every night he was at Rehab, and it always put a huge smile on his face. Also, they put my dad on some medication to stimulate his appetite right before meals - can you maybe look into that for your brother? I think it's called Reglan.

I've been getting him hot dogs off the truck and pizza from the deli which is very good and he loves. I can't really transport too much while I'm taking the train to see him from work. He loves Dr. Brown's soda and he's always looking for a cold drink. too bad I have to get him diet due to the diabetes.
The nurse last night made him eat more because his blood sugar was too low. He ate almost everything on his plate and he looked really good. We were there late and he was tired and cranky but loved to see his kids.
He played checkers! He has the ability to strategize..he got bored of it quickly but he was distracted because a call came in.
