Okay, I may be in the minority here but is anyone else really annoyed by this commercial? The little girl is downright obnoxious and the mom almost seems a little intimidated by her!!! Especially in trying to keep up with her "language". She is lucky enough to be walking around with a phone at that age!!
I don't know. I think I am becoming my parents. 
I say this to DH all the time but he thinks it's funny anyway.

I also completely agree. The other commercial that annoys me is the one where the mom dresses up like a Taco as a second job just so her kids can text and send pics over their cell phones as much as they want.
What messages are we sending?!
Plus, that BFF Jill commercial, while amusing the first time, is starting to get really old to me.

Yeah, I agree, I also think that there are plenty of other things that parents choose to do regarding their children that are a bit more troublesome than giving them a cellphone. In this day and age with abductions running amok, Id be inclined to install a homing device in my child if I thought it would keep him or her safe.

True... you sound like my DH - but the thing is - commercials are trying to SELL us something... so the message they are selling us (and obnoxious little tweens) is that a 10 yr old and her mother can negotiate her texting and cell phone bill....

Yeah, it is *just* a commercial, however, I think the message is troublesome. The little girl in the commericial is so rude and seems like she feels entitled to have a cell phone at age 9. The mom seems intimidated by this kid, and I think that's a sad message and commentary on culture today. I work with kids and I feel like the commericial is sadly reflective of some people's parenting style today.
I think that is why the commerical bothers me personally so much.

If it isnt going to be a cell phone, it is going to be something else. Kids have felt a sense of entitlement for a long time. As technology advances, they are always going to "need" something. When I was little, I NEEDED to have a TV in my room which in the 70s and 80s was not terribly popular. I also NEEDED candy. I NEEDED to see Duran Duran when I was 14 alone at Madison Square Garden. When I abused a privilege, it was taken away - much like the way Jill's BFF lost her privilege of having a phone. Maybe making contracts with a child that set limits and explain consequences could help.
