I never wanted one for the first and don't really want one for this one.
I'm not a big fan of the concept - not sure why, but it irks me (for me - I'm not a gift person). Yes, women put their bodies through a ton of crap during pregnancy and labor, but men have other roles/duties that are just as important.

ITA.... I think the concept is absurd. Sure everyone likes gifts, but I just don't understand why a woman should expect a gift for having a baby.

My DH probably doesn't believe in this either. I don't really want anything and my birthday will be about 1 month after I deliver anyways.

I think it’s a nice way to commemorate the birth of your child together. I don't really read that much into it.
I don't look at it like I did something for you so I get a gift. Its a gesture to me not a requirement.
I also look at it as something nice the child will be handed down when I'm old.

Anything else, I can get myself - and it would NEVER occur to DH to get me anything so...I take matters into my own hands.
Looks like I will be getting a piece of jewelry with pearls - since that is the June birthstone and I already got the emerald!!

i didn't want anything. i was glad to be able to spend the first year home with DD.
I told my DH just like many of you did, I gave him a DD and I am giving him a DS. Since we are done with the children, I want a tummy tuck and boob job for the hard work my body did for him. He agrees with me, just as soon as we have the money.
He also said we can throw in lasik surgery for my eyes.

I got a really nice piece of jewelry for each child, i wanted it so that on their wedding days i could give them what their daddy gave to me on the day that they were born. So...it is less materialistic and more sentimental. I pick out items with my children in mind since I know it is mone only for a short while until they "move on"
So..push prsents are NOT uncalled for
