Newborns and poop
I think Ava is constipated.....For the past 2 days she has only had a bowel movement about 3 times when usually she poops after every feeding. I think maybe its the formula....is this normal or should I call her Dr.

Re: Newborns and poop
Momma knows best.. I have lived by that thought since my son was born...
If you feel like somethings wrong, give a call.. the pediatrician's office is used to receiving calls like this.. They will probably tell you to try taking her temp.. (sometimes a rectal thermometer makes them poop..), they may tell to try a infant stool softener, but she's still really little(I'm not sure if she's old/big enough), so I would call.. just to ease your mind!!! Good luck!! Hope she feels better!!!

You can also try gently massaging in clockwise circles on the left side of their belly button. (acupressure).

Re: Newborns and poop
As your newborn gets older, the bowel movements will change a lot. When they are first born after every feeding is normal. It can go down to once a day, every other day, etc. Constipation will be struggling to poop and when they do rock hard poops. My son wouldn't go for days and when he did - it was rock hard. Less than once a week he would have a normal movement. he would always turn red and was very, very irritable.
You can talk to you dr. My dr had me try several things before changing the formula even with all of the above. I tried prune juice and water, rectal thermometer, etc. None of those worked for me except changing the formula.

Totally agree. Salvatore went after every feeding in the very beginning...now he goes every other day/2 days...Dr. said this was very normal. Good luck!!

Alex did this as well. Sometimes he would go 3 days with no poop. Now he is as regular as they come, like clockwork at 6:30am he wakes with poop in his pants.

We're going through the same exact thing with Christopher and we have been since day 1. We tried prune juice, sugar water, apple juice, rectal thermometer, regular water, messaging the belly, and we're now on our 3rd different formula. While it's gotten better, our pediatrician insists that it's something he'll outgrow.

I agree also. This is exactly what my ped told us - that they aren't really constipated unless they are passing hard formed stools. She recommended that I give him 1 oz of pear juice if that was the case. She said I could even mix it in with the formula if I wanted to.

Re: Newborns and poop
Hayley went on Tuesday before we left the hospital. She finally went a little during the night and again this afternoon. I thought she was constipated too.
