will anyone have to get their own policy after they leave work to have the baby? DH owns his own business so he is on my policy now...but I am quitting work and not coming back (most likely).
I was just wondering how much it is going to cost us per month to cover the three of us. I'm figureing like $1000/month?

take advantage of Cobra while you can. health insurance is expensive. It depends on what plan you with (HMO etc...). Check out their sites and/or start asking for their brochures now.

yes I guess that would work for 18 months...  but I think it will still be expensive...I hate health insurance!!!

For the full family COBRA you are probably looking at around 1000 - 1200/month.
To buy it out right afterwards, it will probably cost more in the range of $1500....
However, you may want to look into Healthy NY.... through the state I think they have special programs for business owners!

my BIL and SIL have 2 kids and pay around $1200 a month for their own health insurance, but COBRA through ur comany should be a little cheaper

You should look into Child Health Plus. It covers all doctor visits, prescriptions, dental, vision, etc. with NO co pay for anything. You pay the full monthly premium if you are over the income limit, which is less than $200 a month, and in most cases cheaper than having a "family" policy. You can apply right after the baby is born.

Your best bet is to have your DH work the insurance out through his business. Its a long story but company rates are always better than individual/family rates. Its also hard to get a broker to work with you b/c the broker/agent doesnt make commission on it.

Yes, that's the point though. Insurance is cheaper for a husband and wife rather than a husband wife and baby in most instances. Family Health Plus has strict income limits and you only qualify if you are basically in poverty.

Check out Healthy NY. I was on this when I first moved to LI. It was great!!! I don't know how it is for children though, but it's worth looking into.
