Closing Question
It looks like we are going to be closing on Monday.
How far in advance did you find out what you needed to bring to closing?
Is it going to be the day before?
We are going to try to do our walk through on the day of the closing in order to avoid making multiple trips to NJ, but am not sure if I will be able to do everything in one day - especially if I need to go to the bank to get certified checks etc.
I would appreciate any input.
We are both nervous and excited and are trying to plan ahead!

We found out the day before what we needed to bring. We also did the walk through the same day.
We only had to bring one certified check and then we had to write one personal check at the closing.

We didn't find out till the day of how much the bank check needed to be  but we did end up getting money paid back to us. GOOD LUCK!

As you know, we are practically neighbors (or soon to be)... when we closed on our house it was on a Friday, we knew around Tuesday of that week what we would need to bring (I recommend just giving your RE agent, or attorney a holler, just to find out for sure). We did a final walk through with our RE the morning of the closing. The sellers were still there, moving stuff out, they were closing on their house later that afternoon. After the walk through we went to our attorney's office in Maplewood, signed everything, waited over an hour for the sellers attorney  handed over the check, took the keys and went directly to our house.
Basic timeline:
Walk through 9:30 am
Closing 10:30 am
12:00 - House was officially ours

Thanks everyone for the info. I am happy to hear that lots of people did the walk through the same day as the closing. My biggest concern is going to NJ for the walk through and making it to the bank and back to NY by 2:30 for the closing. We are closing in Queens closer to my current apt which is good and bad because I know DH and I are going to want to run back to NJ to just be in the house once it is officially ours.
Either way I am sure it is going to work out.
