it is really for anything-- like, for example, I use the internet a lot for work-- bu, even though I am "working", I still pop over to CNN or PerezHilton, and of course check my email even in the midst of work.
That's what I do. I have to do a lot of online research, and purchasing of products & services for work, so while I have the browser open, I play a game, check my email, check LIF.
Also, other than photos, I don't really share content too much, but I receive(I guess?) content that other's have shared--read my friend's blog, check out my other's friend website with his baby's pictures, watch videos people post of their kids on YouTube, etc.

- Watch Video - You Tube
- Email - I have 3 email accounts. 1 for work, 1 for personal stuff & 1 I give out to online sites for shopping etc.
I use my internet providers email, Hotmail and have used Yahoo in the past.
- Visit/Participate in community sites - LIW & LIF are the only ones
- IM - Used for work but no longer. I'm not an IM'er
- Shopping - Ohh..yeah..I try to use Amazon as I trust the site, information etc but have used a specific stores site as well as overstock. E-Bay but not much.
- Product Research - All the time! It's a big part of my internet use.
- Share content, i.e. personal photos, video, etc. Mostly uploading and sending.
Snapfish or Shutterfly
- Get the news - MSN & Newsday
I do a lot of research, I use WebMD for medical questions, use Map Quest for directions, TMZ & Pink is the new Blog for Gossip, I play soduko online & would play more games if it wasn't firewalled. Yellow book for phone numbers & locations. I planned my entire wedding online (LIW, the Know, wedding channel) Everything from finding vendors to choosing songs on wed alert. AOL City Guide for restaurant recommendations & I'll search for a restaurants menu.
I love the convenience the internet has provided. A lot of the time I can order a product online saving me time & money. The amount of information available to educate myself on any topic is priceless.
I use it as a way to get information etc. I don't use it as a tool to give information. I don't use MySpace or have a website.
ETA: Booking Airline tickets. I book 100% of my air travel online & fly at least 3x's per year.

I feel like internet is a blessing and a curse. I love the convenience of being able to find anything I am looking for, however, I hate always being "connected".
I use the internet primarily for:
Email - MS Outlook and Gmail
News - NY Times and WSJ
Research - Both work and personal
I also enjoy this particular community site  but do not frequent many others. I occaisonally shop online too.
