Another landscaper estimate post

The previous owners did nothing to maintain the lawn in the front and back yards. We have what I call hay (yellow grass) and crab grass in the front. The backyard has the same with dirt spots here and there. How much would a landscaper charge in the Nassau area to remove all this stuff and put down the crab grass and weed preventer? We will seed and fertilize it.

We are planning on doing this on our own this weekend but I am wondering if having someone do it would be best.

Re: Another landscaper estimate post

Honestly I would do it myself if I was you. I had the same problem when I moved in and 2 yrs and 2 landscapers and probally over 2grand in bills and it still looks like crap.

I am actually going tomorrow to get the scotts 4 step program. I plan on raking up all the dead grass, and put down step 1 and then seed. Hopefully by following their steps it will work. At least is it going to cost me $100 bucks instead of $1000.

I called Scott's company for the chemicals and they want 39.95 for each application I think that was for 8-12 applications and that is without even seeing the condition of the lawn. I am sure once they come they are going to add or comeup with something else.

Sheesh Chat Icon We can't afford to spend money and have it go down the drain. Guess we are doing this project ourselves.

One suggestion my father told me - put the crab grass/fertilizer down now, and then next month put down the grass seed, but cover it with a tarp in the major sections you put seeds, so the moisture from the tarp buries the seeds as well as the birds will be unable to come and eat them and then after a few weeks you should see some growth.

Just reading your post and wanted to point out that scott step 1 for crabgass control that you cannot SEED after putting this down or you'll breakthe barrier it creates that doesn't allow crab grass to sprout.
