anyone ever file a pothole claim with NYC?

we hit a huge pothole on bell blvd and 36th last night (be careful)

the has minor body damage- but is now make crazy noises

I have the city claim form and took pics of the pothole this morning

anyone ever file a claim before?

last year when my car was 3 months old a I hit a huge pot hole and cracked my rim $500 and I wanted to file a claim but my hubby a retired NYPD cop said it was a waste of my time because the city never pays claims and there has to be a certain number of complaints made to 311 about that specific pot hole. So I ate the $500 and the damn pot hole is still there. Good Luck!!

My parents had a horrible pot hole in front of their house and it took the city over a year to even lay a piece of metal over it.

It was a horrible pot hole. The entire block complained and one guy driving down the block practically ripped out the bottom of his car.

One day my dad was driving over it and damaged his car. he just ate the cost because anything with the city takes years.

Another incident was (this was when I was a kid) my mom was crossing the street one day, fell in a pothole, broke her ankle and sued the city. Took at least 5 years before she even got a settlement.

thanks everyone- we are going file a claim with our insurance company- that's what our agent thinks is best

luckily we were only going 5mph b/c it was at the light

there were about 20 other cars that were damaged in the 5 minutes we were there- including SUVs

I took lots of pics- it's terrible- still this morning- no cones or anything- it's not right- I feel like calling the news if it's still like that when I get home!

That stinks. Did you report it to the local police dept? They might be able to do somethng faster then going through 311.

Beth -sorry this happened. If no one every complains about the pot hole it won't get fixed. I would complain about it anyway.

I thought my friend made a claim and got paid but, when I asked her, she said they told her that she was the first person to report the pothole and it was filled in 48 hrs so they didn't give anything.

My old roommate filed a medical claim with NYC due to a pothole in a crosswalk. Since it had already been documented and not taken care of, she received a payout.

thanks- we are just going to let our insurance company handle it

that's what we pay them for- there could be major things wrong with the car and it's 2 months old- the second payment is due on friday

and we need a rental- and I have great coverage for that- I don't feel like having to lay all this money out and hope for the city to pay me back

I'm just waiting for Jake to take the car to his friends shop- or have it towed there - so I can get my claim number!
