Those who relocated out of state and owned a home...
If we decide to move, how do we go about it? Do we wait till our house sells? Do we get an apartment down there first?
When we moved to Florida it was so easy because it was just the two of us and no house.
Now we have a house and a baby so things have to be more organized. Any help would be great.

its only me and my DH so when we moved it was easy...we lived at home in NY till we closed on out house in NC...DH moved in a few months later and I joined after the wedding....
Will you need to money from your house down for a down payment? You could rent an apt till you find a place and sell your house in NY, unless you take a trip find something you love and sell your house quickly. But since you have a little one I would want a roof ontop of my head asap
ETA: I would also go and check out any potential areas before you decide anything...make sure you are 100% happy! Keep me posted Jen!

my sister relocated to VA - she didnt own a house here though, but her and her husband lived in an apartment for a few months so they really knew the area before buying...
I would want to be in contract on my home here before buying in another state - unless you can carry both mortgages.

We sold our house in NY before we purchased a home in GA. I wanted to make sure I did not have 2 mortgages.
If you are familiar with the area and know where you want to live and where you will work then I see no problem with buying a house as soon as you sell the 1st one. If you are not familiar with the area then you may want to rent until you find the perfect neighborhood for you guys.
