More Q's for those of you have the front load W&D
for those of you have made the switch to the front load W/D, did you really see that big of a savings on your electric bill?
we live in an apt with their W/D - it's an all in 1 unit. And even though it's new, it STINKS! it takes no less than 2 hours to dry 1 load of wash, not even a full sized load 
I am seriously considering giving back the W/D that came with our apt and investing in my own front loads since they have a MUCH bigger capacity and SO much more efficient, supposedly. I think it’s a worthwhile investment since we can obviously take them with us when we buy a house.
I just measured the all in 1 unit we have an it’s 27” wide (with some room on the side), 73” tall and very deep!
any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

well since my old one was built in 1970 something yes, I see a big difference. I also notice that it takes less water & less time to wash. The drying time is also better, but I moved from an electric to a gas one, so that could be the reason.
Plus we have a king-sized bed, so I chose the model that can fit all the bedding into the washer & dryer.
The unit is stackable & currently lives in my closet.

thanks! we also have a closet for the all in 1 until we have now. I looked up the dimensions of these new front loads and it would fit! now to convince DH that we should invest in them! 
I figured out that I am "wasting" over 300 hours a year on that stupid useless dryer

I can't really say if it's a big difference since we've only had a front loader in our current house. The old house had a top loader, but I really don't remember what the bills were like.
I do know that our utility company gave us a refund ($50?) for getting a front loader since they're energy and water efficient.

They also make top loads that are energy efficient - LOVE the Kenmore ones! Sasha has the same exact one that I hope to get within the next year.

We purchased a front loader washer about 8 mths ago. From what I understand. The electricity cost is saved more in the fact that you use less drying time. Which I will agree with 100%. I use much less drying time because they spin at such a faster speed to get more excess water out and I have yet to purchase a new dryer.
I can't honestly say that I noticed a difference in my LIPA bill.

so you have not yet purchased the new "front load" dryer?
No, I have not purchased the front load dryer. Only the washer for now. But with my old dryer I see a difference in drying time. I technically haven't seen my LIPA bill decrease.

has your dryer always taken 2 hrs to dry a load?
Maybe your washer and dryer just need to be replaced and you should talk to your apt complex about new ones. Or at least, make an appt for a maintenance. Those babies don't last forever. The washer and dryer came with the apt so they should replace them if they aren't working properly. Worth a try.

yes! it always takes 2 hours to dry a load. it really stinks. and they did replace it with a brand new one, it still stinks! I should have NEVER rented the carppy all in 1 unit from them. now it's built into my rent and I can't take it off the lease with all the money I spent in the many yrs of living here, I could have bought a TOP OF THE LINE W&D by now

if you buy a new washer and dryer and think you will take it with you, you may be in a situation where you have to sell yours or the ones that come with the house if it comes with the house. Just something to think about.
I do agree that 2 hrs is too long to dry. Are your loads too big for the dryer? My crappy dryer takes a while too but not that long.

yesterday I did 2 loads. again, I have an all in 1, so the capacity isn't that big to begin with. the 2nd load I did yesterday consisted of 1 bath towell a few t-shirts, a few pairs of underwear and a few pairs of socks. that is a medium size load at most. it took 1.5 hours to dry

I have a front load washer and I hate it.
I drop things going in, I drop things going out -- and the dog gets them before I can and then I have to chase him and the random sock all over the house... !
Honestly, my old Kenmore held more laundry than the new front-loader, of the largest capacity.
I haven't noticed any difference in the water and electric, but then again DH pays those bills, not me.
The clothes do come out drier tho.
