Re: New Hyde Park

I grew up in NHP and my parents still live there so I can definitely help you out! Most of NHP is in Nassau County, but part of it is in Queens. School wise - there is the Herricks School District or you can go to New Hyde Park schools (NHP / GCP is the elementary school district and New Hyde Park Memorial High School is the high school - part of Sewanhanka SD). Overall, I think the schools are very good. I also liked growing up there - it's a nice community. As for commute wise, the LIRR is about 30 minutes to Penn Station.

Please feel free to FM me with any other specific questions!!!

I don't live in NHP but in Garden City - I don't much about the actual town but I can tell you the commute is fabulous - it is on a few major LIRR lines (there are several that go thru there) the hicksville, huntington, ronkonkama lines all run trains thru there. It is the last stop before Jamaica.

Re: New Hyde Park

Gail-

I grew up in Floral Park- which is the town right next to NHP. The area is great! The school are good- NHP schools are part of the Sewanhaka school district. My brother's girlfriend and best friend attended and graduated from NHP Memorial.

Its not far from the city- maybe 30-40 minutes on the train. The NHP train station is on the main line- so there are trains going there often.

Let me know if you have any questions!!! Chat Icon

Re: New Hyde Park

I was born and raised in NHP. Lived there for 32 years before moving to Florida. I LOVE it there and miss it sooo much. We lived around the block from the LIRR and it would take me about 35 min to get into the city (If I can remember correctly). FM me if you want to know anything specific!

Re: New Hyde Park

Both of my parents grew up there, and my grandparents still live there.
There's a section that attends Great Neck South schools as well.

It also has a great shopping center, good hospitals(LIJ)Close to the highways too.

Bayside is a good area too(express LIRR to Penn Station takes about 15- 20 minutes). Good luck with your search.

Re: New Hyde Park

I really like NHP. At the time we were looking for a house we couldn't touch anything. Great schools and I love the commute..how I long for a 30 minute commute again!

Re: New Hyde Park

The area is nice and the commute to the city is great. I think the houses are overpriced, though. The school districts are good, but not that great that I think it's worth over $500k for a small cape. JMO.

Re: New Hyde Park

I like New Hyde Park. When dh and i were looking, we were looking in the nhp, floral park garden city vicinity.

You cant go wrong with a wide line cape in new hyde park and then blow it up!

The sd's are good.. We were looking toward the herricks sd side, however the nhp garden city park sd is good too.

the area is changing slightly in certain parts, fm me for more info!

Re: New Hyde Park

Danielle's uncle lived in NHP for 40 years. We actually sold his house there recently. Ang&Nick looked at it.

The area his house is in is really nice. It is called Lakeview estates.

Between Marcus Avenue and Hillside Avenue off of New Hyde Park road.

The area is very quiet, tons of families....and also has two really good school districts.

Supposedly Great Neck is more desireable because the taxes are lower and the school is supposed to be better, but Danielle and I did a little research on the two schools because we were selling the house and found out that New Hyde Park - Garden City Park had better grades then the Great Neck Schools....The grades were both excellent.

If you care about the schools you can look at the report cards on newsdays website. Just do a search for schools.
