BUt they've paid their debt to society? Isn't that enough? What if they've reformed?
Is it far that felons can be asked to die in abttle when they can't vote? How can felons die in battle when the military doesn't take them?
Apparently some do get in. I just read your Military rules post.

Re: Sorta Spinoff: Should felons be allowed to vote?
Apparently, they can enlist if they are able to obtain a morality "waiver," which is becoming easier to obtain.
Irrespective of whether this prohibition is waived, nobody is asking convicted felons to die in battle. They would be voluntarily enlisting for various reasons: to serve their country, to compensate for prior misdeeds, get a fresh start, etc. Point being....it has nothing to do with their prohibition from voting due to their felony conviction.

to answer the military thing - I seriously doubt that a convicted murder or a sex offender would be able to join.

I think it has a lot to do with it. Why do you think the voting age was lowered? If you're going to be in the military, you'd better be able to vote.
Not that I think felons should be in the military

Re: Sorta Spinoff: Should felons be allowed to vote?
I don't think convicted felons should be in the military either, but I certainly don't think that they should be allowed to vote.
And, from a practical perspective, I assume that this prohibition has been constitutionally challenged and upheld...so it would be up to lawmakers to reverse the prohibition. And, what politician is going to want to champion this cause? It demonstrates that they want the criminal vote...and, people may by implication assume that politician is soft on crime....

Nope.
They gave up their rights as a citizen when they committed a felony.
I totally agree with that law.
I agree as well. I also don't think they should change their names in jail or have a government paid education! Dh and I have school loans that we pay off in addition to paying for their jail term and education through our HUGE tax bill.
Don't even get me started on this topic, I could go on and on.

I just read this after reading the American Idol thread, so for a second I thought you meant should they be allowed to vote for their favorite AI.
