So Upset...Update at bottom

The dr. just called and there were no embies left to freeze I don't understand...we had 28 eggs 18 fertilized and transferred 2 5 day blasts. He said on the day of transfer that we would have at least one to freeze but he thought more along the lines of 5 would make it to freeze. I don't know what happened. I know frozen embies is not the norm but still. I just feel really down.

I dont blame you. That is ODD??? When do they freeze them. I know my clinic freezes on day 3 and some wiatb to day 5 but I have never heard of longer than that

That makes no sense...how long were they keeping them before freezing?

I don't know I just emailed the RE. What I don't get is that on the day of transfer he was so sure we would have a few left to freeze. He did mention that Columbias policy on freezing embryos was very strict and that they would only freeze good quality embryos but on day 5 aren't they all blasts.?

I am so sorry - sometimes the drs do stuff I just don;t understand and then later they explain it properly to me and I feel better

So Ladies this is what my RE emailed me today. Sorry to be a PITA but what do you think? Is this is a good explanation. After this I won't try and stress it too much...what's done is done...I'm just praying for the two little ones inside of me

FROM RE:
I spoke with Casey our head embryologist. She told me what I
expected to hear, and that is that in order to get to know what
embryos are the very best, we have to culture for at least 5 days.
The best ones you had were given to you, and they were truly quite
nice. The others were of lesser quality, and when given an extra
day to reveal themselves, they all for the most part either stopped
growing or degenerated. This longer culture usually means less or
none to freeze, but in actuality very high pregnancy rates occur
because we have discovered the 2 "gems" among all your eggs. Your
situation is not uncommon, and as our ability to culture embryos
longer improves, you will find less frozen embryos but still
overall better pregnancy rates. Think good thoughts and we will see
you soon.

It sounds legitimate to me. Most places don't culture for more than five days so it seems a reasonable explanation.

Hopefully, he/she is right and you have the gems implanting as we type!

You are right not to stress about this 00 think good thoughts!! It is a shame they didn't make it to freeze but then again, they wouldn't have made it anyway it seems. So lets just hope those 2 you DO have stick!!

it does make sense. Its also nice that they gave you the courtesy of an explanation
