If you hired a nanny do you think
they'd be upset with people "dropping by" often while they were watching your DC. We're thinking of getting a nanny instead of daycare for the two but I find it so hard to leave my children alone with a nanny in my house.
What would they do all day? I think they would end up going stir crazy ( I know I would!)
Do you think they would resent you if people came by while I wasn't there? Honest opinions/suggestions please.

I've seen lots of nannies at local playgroups, story hours and classes -- so I think nannies do a lot of the same things that SAHMs do with babies!

I would think they would have to be introduced to those people with you there, first. I wouldn't want a nanny opening the door and letting strangers in the house just because they said they were "Aunt Suzy". As long as you introduced them, it might be OK.

Re: If you hired a nanny do you think
Well, I can only tell you my perspective from a nanny's point of view because I worked for a family for many years during college. Being cooped up in the house all day with no where to go and no one but two small children to talk to is a nightmare of mine! I worked 12 hour days and only had my two little men to talk to all day long I did not feel comfortable driving them anywhere and they had no parks nearby their house, so the extent of our going out was into the backyard. It was really, really hard some days. Especially if they were having a cranky day. My sister also worked for them, as well, though, and so she would come over and spend time with us, and vice versa, so it made it much more bareable! I would say maybe try to make some mommy friends in the area with babies that could come over for playdates. I think it would be kind of weird for the nanny if you had random family members drop by. And you never know, after a while, if you find a nanny you love, you may begin to trust them enough to drive DC around to playgroups and such. You just don't know until you're in that situation. JT was also a nanny, or manny, whatever, and he drove his kids EVERYWHERE. They would go to New Jersey to visit the family's relatives! I would have never been comfortable doing that with someone else's kids, but this family encouraged him to take roadtrips with the kids during the day, so he did. It all just depends. So the moral of my long azz story, maybe some baby friends visiting with their nannies or mommies would be best.

Once your kids are more than 9 months old, they are not going to be happy stuck in the house all day. Is the nanny just for the newborn stage or until they are ready for school?

Definitely longer than the newborn stage, I guess up to school age. I guess with a DMV check I might be okay with them driving. I'm just so unsure about the whole thing.

Who wouldn't be unsure?! I think that's normal. Do you have a nanny already, or are you going to be looking? If you don't have one, then I'd say a lot of these uncertainties will be cleared up once you have a nanny.

No, we don't have a nanny. Roman is in daycare fulltime, he will be about 20 months when the new baby comes. I hear great stories about families really bonding with their nannies which is what I could only hope for especially because we would be expecting them to stay a long time. Then you hear all the horrible stories and they make me cringe. I guess we will know in time.

Re: If you hired a nanny do you think
Have you thought about stealing a teacher from daycare to be the nanny? Most people I know have done that, and this way, you already know who they are.

Good suggestion. One of the teachers lives right down the block too. Something to consider.

Re: If you hired a nanny do you think
I introduced Rhonda, Jordana's nanny, to other nannies in my building. She gets along really well with one, and they get together often. Today in fact they are going to the book store together.
I don't think there is anythign wrong with that. She is taking care of your child. You make the rules. Just be sure to be upfront about your expectations.

Re: If you hired a nanny do you think
Not sure if I understand that question.
Are you asking if the NANNY wouldnt like people stopping by>? Llike your family?
Or should you not like people stopping by (her friends or other nannies with kids?)
To answer the first question.... too bad for the nanny! I mean if your mother or sister or brother wanted to stop by at 2 pm and see your baby, as long as it's okay with you,the nanny doesn't really have a say. Unless, lets say at 2 pm your baby is eating or napping and your family owants to come in and wake them up- well then the nanny has a right to say something to you. But the nanny should never resent the family member or you for having someone stop by. That is totally in your right and if they had a big issue I would wonder what they are hiding.
The answer to the other question - I would not want to have any other nannies and children over my house without meeting them first. That's my personal comfort level though. I would still be a little uneasy about my nanny meeting another at a park but I would never stop that. i would like to meet them first but once I did, I would be fine with it. I can understand that it gets boring sitting in a house all day with a baby by yourself.
