Are you all ready for the quotes we received to finish our basement?
I think we're going to wait awhile...this would just be to waterproof and make it liveable...nothing fancy....
1st quote - $75,000
2nd quote - $100,000
Um, yeah...we're going to wait awhile.

That's a ton of moolah..I know that it's expensive though. For ours we know we would have to spend $30K at least.

That's insane. While mine is smaller than most we did that and finished it for a FRACTION of what your first quote was.

We're in Jersey though..would your contractor come here? We do have a fairly large house, but still...I couldn't believe the pricing quotes.

my uncle was getting those quotes too, he was chosing all really high end stuff so I think thats why....we are just finishing ours up and it came in under 10,000, but ours was done really simply

No, I'm sorry. It wouldn't pay for him to come to Jersey, too far. He's licensed for Nassau and Suffolk.

My SIL had her basement redone for about that. She has a large ranch so her basement is big. Plus they put in a bar area, sauna, theatre room, music room, playroom etc. If your not doing anything fancy I would definetly get more quotes.

I can see it going that hight depending on what you pick out.
Maybe you can do more work yourselves to cut down costs? If you demo the place on your own, maybe bring the supplies in and you guys paint and do the carpet, you may save a lot of extra cash on it.

what are you getting done? I know my parents paid about 7K for sheetrock walls carpeting and drop ceilings with lights, and a built in bar.

My mother redid her basement. About 850 sq. ft. added a bathroom for $30K. How big is you basement? The price seems ridiculously high.

My friend recently converted her basement into a living room, bedroom and bathroom and she paid $24K.
I think those prices are insane! We paid $100K for a small rear dormer that extended our bedroom, added a master bath, walk-in closet, gutted and renovated our downstairs bath, a complete strip off of two layers of siding, new hardiboard siding and shutters, new roof, gutters, leaders and new windows downstairs.

yep...that's a big part of it. we originally had a guy come in that just dealt with waterproofing and his estimate was $11,000 JUST to waterproof.
