I personally love Hauppauge and if you are in Hauppauge and in the town of Islip, your taxes are pretty sweet when compared to town of Smithtown. The schools are great (relatively small). The best parts of Hauppauge are north of the LIE.

I was raised in Hauppauge, and went to Hauppauge Schools. I love love love it there. DH and I are actually looking to buy there. I loved going to school there, no complaints. Its a small district. The taxes stay on the low side, and most of the blocks are beautiful. Where is the house exactly that you found?
ETA: South Hauppauge is not Hauppauge, Its Central Islip

Me, too...I live in Hauppauge, but I'm Smithtown schools...really high taxes!

My DH grew up in Smithtown (the Pines area) but went to Hauppauge schools. I know nothing about the area, but he said they are decent schools.

Hauppague has great schools, and the taxes are low because of the industrial center.

Hauppauge is a great area and a great school district. Our apartment is in Hauppauge now. We looked at a ton of houses in Hauppauge. Like Kerry said Town of Islip has lower taxes than Town of Smithtown. We just noticed that since taxes are relatively low in Hauppauge, a lot of house prices weren't coming down. Great area! I have two friends that have lived here for a while and love it!

I teach at HMS and so I think the schools are great  No really, nice kids, nice family, good programs and very nice houses!

It is a great town and a really good school district. I grew up in Smithtown, right next door. If it is happauge school district, it is cheaper taxes then Smithtown School district.

One of my best friends recently moved there. She lives off of 347 after you pass over 111. It's a really nice neighborhood. All of the houses are different, big, and maintained well. So far she really likes it.

Grew up in hauppauge, and thought the schools were great! I also teach there now, so I still think the schools are great! 
The areas are really nice for families...
