anxiety
it stinks having to stop and think about every single thing i eat or drink. i end up getting so worked up about it that i don't know what to eat/drink at all. last night i had lasagna (it was a treat because i try to avoid pasta) and DH cooked a nice chicken dish (for protein) i barely took one bite and couldn't eat it. Chicken is just not sitting well with me.
So we can't have deli meats, can't have tuna, chicken is grossing me out - what am i supposed to eat???

Re: anxiety
I haven't been able to stomach chicken at all since I got my BFP.
Cheeseburgers have been a main staple in my diet and pasta as well.
If the reason you aren't eating pasta is because of potential weight gain I think you have to let that go and just eat whatever you can stomach.

Re: anxiety
Funny, something about chicken grosses me out too since my bfp, along w/deli turkey.
You can always eat grains (barley, rice), beans, veggies, fruit, eggs, and seafood
I know, easier said than done, as I snack on my swedish fish...

Re: anxiety
Can I ask why you are avoiding deli meats and tuna? I mean, I understand the tuna thing, however, you do not have to avoid it altogether, just in moderation (thats what my OB has always said anyway).
However, why avoid deli meat? With my first pregnancy, all I wanted to eat for lunch every day were deli sandwiches, with #2, same thing, this time, that has not kicked in yet, but I am sure it will soon
Thats never been one of the things my doctor has said to avoid, so I am just curious.

Re: anxiety
Chicken didn't sit well with me in the beginning but boy do I love steak. I could it eat it 24/7. I also had to give in and eat pasta but I use dreamfields to cut down on the carbs. It's just as good in my opinion.
I haven't had any cold cuts - you can - but for some reason I haven't allowed myself to have anything. I want a turkey and provelone hero the minute she is here.

Re: anxiety
Secretmama, my doc said to avoid deli meats, prob because of the nitrates, sodium and possible listeria bacteria. However, from researching here i think turkey is ok in moderation because its cooked first.
tuna is high in mercury (albacore is higher in mercury than chunk light). you can have it but only 1-2x per week and i've already had it prob 3 portions this week. I love it so much i can eat it every day
i have a pack of skinless sabretts in the freezer that i'm going to boil and have for dinner tomorrow nite.

Re: anxiety
no its not that i'm totally avoiding the pasta, just trying to include more proteins in most meals. My dr. said to limit the white flour, sugars etc. and stick to whole grains, proteins, veggies, fruits.

Re: anxiety
It's so hard in the 1st trimester to eat what your "suppose" to be eating due to nausea, major food aversions and your new sense of smell.
You can always get back on track when the 2nd trimester rolls around.
Try not to be too obbessive about food, it will just make you crazy, EVERYTHINGN IN MODERATION and if pasta makes you feel good, it smells good to you and doesn't make you nauseaus, EAT it and don't feel guilty about it!
Eat what smells and tastes good to you right now even if its' cookies, pasta, cupcakes, ice cream, bagels and cream cheese!
I honestly think it doesn't matter what you eat your body will process it how it wants too, this pg i eat sooo well, no white flour, whole grains, lots of fruit, no fried food, limit my carbs, i had ice cream for the 1st time last week and I still are gaining exactly the way i did with DD and I ate the exact opposite.

Exactly. Eat what you want in moderation - plus, fish is good for you and your baby's brain development. Just don't eat tuna every single day and you'll be fine. My opinion is that you really need to mix up what you put into your body - it's not good to abstain from fish or deli meat alltogether.

Re: anxiety
I eat things in moderation. You can find something bad in everything so i personally, eat what i feel like eating and its on the "bad" list, i only eat a little and then try to avoid other bad things for a few days.

Re: anxiety
I am liking chicken again, just not grilled. I had lemon chicken last night and I was happy. Turkey meat on the other hand Just try and get some protein in and try to do at least complex carbs if you don't want to do pasta. Baked potato, whole wheat bread or even whole wheat pasta!
