Having GD stinks
Ok so it has only been 4 days and trying to find things to eat is a pain in the but.
I weighed myself this morning and I am down 3 lbs. I feel like crap and I don't see the nutritionist till Wed!!!
I feel bad for people that have to live with diabetes.

Re: Having GD stinks
I have GD and feel the same way. It's such a pain in the a ss. I'm in the testing stage right now with food. I'm not starving myself and trying to add more protein to my diet. At my education class the women said if you eat protein with carbs the protein will try to off set the carbs. Also she said after eating try walking for 10-15min. It's supposed to help break down the sugar.
Good Luck!

Re: Having GD stinks
i hear ya, i been crying all night last night, bc i just can't take it anymore, i keep saying to myself all crackheads who do bad things are fine, here i am and never did one drug in my life and i get stuck with this, it is soooooooooooooooo hard changing your diet when you never had to ever. i am losing weight which scares me bc i keep thinking she is not getting what she needs, i don't know what to do........ i am just following the low carbs and it seems to be working, i will post later when i get home...... i am there with you many for all of us, it is over soon!

Re: Having GD stinks
I looked at it as a blessing in disguise. If you get GD you have a higher chance of getting diabetes later in life- so it is worth it to watch your carbs and sugar anyway....
Once I started on a GD diet, my weight gain slowed down almost to a hault- I didn't necessarily lose any weight- but I wasn't gaining either and the baby got what she needed and was born very healthy and not big at all like you worry about when you have GD.
My cousin, who is as L&D nurse, said that carbs and sugars go right to the baby and make the baby big- so even when you don't have GD she told me that pg women should watch those.

I had to test 6-7 times a day. honestly- compared to other ladies- i tested the most. After a week or so of that, I was allowed reduced testing.... this was:
I tested AM right when I woke up. then 2 hours after breakfast. before lunch 2 hours after lunch before dinner 2 hours after dinner

Re: Having GD stinks
It does suck and I too cried and cried b/c for someone who always ate what they wanted that now had to change and watch was very difficult for me BUT I am really happy I did get it and heres why-
1. I lost weight during the last months only gaining a total of 25 lbs for the entire pregnancy
2. my DD was only 7lbs 6 ounce- didnt have to worry about a big baby
3. 1 week after giving birth went right back into pre preggo jeans
4. the most important thing- it made me HEALTHIER The awareness alone of how our bodies break down food and "how" to eat was the greatest thing I could have learned that I didnt and couldnt have learned at any weight loss center and I have been to them over the years, WW, fit america, etc. going to the diabetes center and spending time with the nutritionist there was completely different than when I was seeing a nutritionist! I have IBS so I had to see a nutrionist for a year and let me tell you it is nothing like seeing a diabetic nutrionist! I was and still follow the meal plans- I dont want to say diet b/c I am still eating what I want just in moderation. My sugar went back to normal 99 and even though I can eat whatever I want I dont b/c I remember how crappy I felt eating too many carbs too. I ate candy and sweets when I had GD I just checked my numbers to see how my sugar was prior too and an hour after to see how my body broke it down, so I knew what I could and couldnt have as far as sweets b/c when your PG for me I needed a sweet here and there!!
and for testing I had to prick my finger 6 times a day AND take 2 shots of insulin!!!
If you take what you have learned from GD, eat smart and exercise you wont have to worry about getting type 2 later in life!
best of luck to you
