PG Girlies, Def Register for a Larger Carseat...

I was talking to one of my 6 friends that are PG and they said they were unsure about registering for a larger carseat.

I told her she def should. This way you have it and someone else can get it for you.

When they grow out of the infant carseat they will need a larger one.

I think she means register for the infant seat AND the next stage seat too so you have them both.

I don't know. I feel like the registry nazi, but I kind of feel like things you need later on, you should be responsible for.

Not to mention that my SIL registered for both and only got the larger car seat, so they had to go out and buy an infant seat which they used til my neice was one.

Ok, got it. Thankfully, I already planned on doing this. I'm registering for the infant seat and then the convertible seat that goes up to 40 pounds. Then, we'll buy a booster seat when needed.

Thanks for the advice!

What about a highchair or exesaucer? You need it sometimes right around the same time you need a larger carseat.

I got a travel system so that wasn't a problem for me.

Yeah, but those items aren't "replacement" items for something else you registered for.

I kind of feel the same way as Kate. It feels greedy to me to add those on the registry as well.

But that's just my opinion.

I didn't register for either a highchair or an exesaucer. I felt bad registering for both a swing and a bouncer!

ETA: to each their own, and it isn't really "greedy" that I mean.

Register for the Britax Marathon seat. It harnesses them until they are 65 pounds (most stop at 40 pounds). We just learned this lesson the hard way. Had to buy my 3 year old a new carseat because he outgrew his old one, but still needs the 5 pt. harness.

My mother was told the same thing, escpecially that we had over 60 people were there and we bought the nursery furniture ourselves.
I was even given a check from someone that told me to go get the next size car seat.

But like someone said, to each their own. If you don't feel comfortable, that is up to you.
I think she (we) was just trying to give some helpful advice.

Re: PG Girlies, Def Register for a Larger Carseat...

Absolutely, and I totally appreciate the advice.

I'm having two VERY small showers and my extended family can't afford a lot, so that's probably where my feeling of being greedy is coming from.

If I had a bigger family/friend group I might consider it too.

I agree with both of these ladies. I think registering for the infant seat OR a convertable seat, swing, bouncer and MAYBE high chair is more than enough. The rest should be your responsibility. This is JMO.

I agree- there are plenty of things I will need/want when the baby is tiny- there are plenty of other big-ticket items that are more pressing.

My mom already bought me a larger car seat, and while I'm grateful (it wasn't on my registry) I wish she's gotten the co-sleeper because I will need that right away.

I registered for it. No one is forcing anyone to buy it and being new parents who need everything, I'm sure people will understand why there is so much on the registry.

I agree [though I don't use the infant carrier seats at all]. What if you have a large baby? S/He might be too big to sit safely and comfortably in that infant carrier at 4-6 months...then what? Then, 6-8 months EARLY you have to go out and buy larger seats anyway. If you have them already, you are set. And if no one gets them, you have already done your homework as well! [There is no way of knowing in advance that your baby will grow fast/be a chubster either!]

I totally agreee ... my 5 month olds are approaching the end of the line for our Graco Snugrides. I received both of the convertible seats as a gift and I'm thankful for that even moreso now! You can put them on the registry and if you get them, great. If you get the big carseat and no infant carrier, just return and purchase what you'd like!Chat Icon

See I have a small family and many can't afford much - so I am making sure that I put a variety of stuff so there is something for everyone.

I already have my infant seat so I see nothing wrong with registering for a convertible seat. I am registering for a high chair - but I don't want an exercuser.

I also will not put anything on my registry that I do not fully intend to buy for myself if someone else doesn't buy it for me.

Remember just because it is on your registry doesn't mean people have to buy it. Many people won't buy off of registries anyway and will go buy what pleases them. If someone doesn't want to buy it for you - they won't.

I agree. We had very few big ticket items on our registry but those that we did have usually we needed two. No one bought us the bigger car seats (the only larger item that we didn't receive) but a few family members gave us giftcards so they will be used to purchase them when we need them.
