Another Nanny Cam question...
I didn't want to hijack the other post so I just started another one! How do they work? Do they tape all the time? Can you watch on the web? How did you find someone to install yours? Do they all have to be permanent? ( I keep picturing the pink teddy bear from Weeds! ) How do you find the time to watch it? How do you tear yourself away from watching it all the time?
Most importantly, are they a fortune?

To answer.... The way ours works is this: we hardwired cameras in different rooms (they look like motion detectors) and we set it up thru the computer where it records to a DVR and we can watch it whenever we want. It's linked to a website and certain people can get on it and watch it in real time (with a user name and password) but our computers at work have firewalls and won't allow us to so we're working on it. Basically, it is always recording. We can shut the DVR off but then it messes up the time and date and we jus tdon't know how to fix it yet! (I think I answered 3 questions at once).
We had our alarm company install it but they really had no clue how to get it on the web so it took a really long time - and it stil lis not perfect. It's better to find an IT person to do the webstuff.
It doesn't have to be permanent - we can take the cameras down and just put a blank swtch plate over it and you really wouldn't even notice it.
Time to watch it? It's hard- it takes up a good part of when DH and I get home from work but we put it in fast motion and just go slow when we need to. By the way, the ydon't have sound which is annoying but apparently, it's illegal.
I'm working from home and when the nanny is downstairs I'm always watching it - and yes it is very hard to pull myself away- which is why I get little work done! lol!
Ask anymore questions.... oh and yes, it did cost a fortune - more than we thought but mostly becaues we couldn't get it set up correctly. And also, they told us the DVR box was about $1300 alone.

Re: Another Nanny Cam question...
Wow, thanks! What made you think to contact the alarm company for this? I would never have thought of them! I guess that should have been another question, how did you decide who to use to install the system?

I don't really know but DH I guess asked the alarm company about cameras and the owner;s son said he put them in his own house. So we just went from there. They are in NJ so if you are interested, let me know and I can give you their name.

You have to keep recording even when you are home?

You don't have to but we leave it on because we don't know how to fix the time and date.

Re: Another Nanny Cam question...
Where is the DVR? Is it the same as the one for your TV?

No but it looks like a big DVD player actually. We keep it near our computer since it needs to be hooked up to the networking stuff.
